Air Force Association, Gujarat Branch organised Late Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon Param Vir Chakra Annual Memorial Lectures here on Sunday.
Air Marshal Vikram Singh AVSM VSM AOC-in-C South Western Air Command was the Chief Guest. He gave his guidance and support to Air Force Association Gujarat’s initiative to enhance awareness of the security issues that Gujarat in particular faces. Three senior veteran Defence officers shared insights on the multiple strategic aspects of national security as follows:

Another speaker gave insights into the start ups in defence area. The fourth lecture series was dedicated to the unknown soldiers and was held in National Forensic Science University.
Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon is the only Air Force personnel to be awarded the Param Vir Chakra in honour of his courage, valour and flying skills in engaging Pakistan F-86 jets in unequal combat during the 1971 war.
- In addition to organizing the event, the proceeds will be used to meet the charter of Air Force Association and to help veteran Air Force personnel and their families as well as to spread awareness for the Defence Forces within Gujarat.
Veteran Air Marshal PK Desai said that the reason behind naming the annual Memorial Lectures after Flying Officer Sekhon is due to the tremendous courage and resilience we face in terrorist, maritime and border threats and remain on the part of long-term peace and economic stability.

The Air Force Association (AFA) is a registered association of retired Indian Air Force personnel established by Air Chief Marshal (Retd) Arjan Singh, DFC (Marshal of the Indian Air Force). Air Force Association has over 80,000 members, including over 5,000 widows. Air Force Association, Gujarat was established in 2007 and is managed by a panel of Ex Air Force personnel and their families settled in Gujarat in the form of financial and legal assistance to ex-servicemen and their families, including widows and children.
