GANDHINAGAR, DEC 8

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), registered a landslide victory in Gujarat assembly polls with a record number of 149 seats, on Thursday, said Bhupendra Patel would continue as the chief minister of the state and his oath-taking ceremony would take place on December 12.

— Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) December 8, 2022

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah would attend his swearing-in ceremony, BJP’s state unit president CR Paatil said on Thursday while addressing a press conference.

To all hardworking @BJP4Gujarat Karyakartas I want to say – each of you is a champion! This historic win would never be possible without the exceptional hardwork of our Karyakartas, who are the real strength of our Party.

— Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) December 8, 2022

Reacting to BJP’s massive win, PM Modi stated, “Thank you Gujarat. I am overcome with a lot of emotions seeing the phenomenal election results. People blessed politics of development and at the same time expressed a desire that they want this momentum to continue at a greater pace. I bow to Gujarat’s Jan Shakti”.

— Amit Shah (Modi Ka Parivar) (@AmitShah) December 8, 2022

He added, “To all hardworking Karyakartas, I want to say – each of you is a champion! This historic win would never be possible without the exceptional hardwork of our Karyakartas, who are the real strength of our Party.”

The BJP is set for a landslide victory in Gujarat to retain power for a seventh straight term and is likely to break previous records by winning the highest number of seats in any assembly election in the state. At 7:30 pm according to the EC website was BJP has won 149 seats and leading in one seat of the state’s 182 assembly seats that went to polls earlier this month.

“Bhupendra Patel will continue as the state chief minister and his oath-taking ceremony would take place on December 12,” Paatil said.

Lashing out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for trying to “demean” the people of Gujarat with “dole politics”, Paatil said, “The AAP never thought about Gujarati asmita and was never able to connect with the psyche of the people of Gujarat.”

“All anti-Gujarati forces have been defeated…People of Gujarat had already made up their mind to re-elect the BJP government in the state. It’s a victory of good governance and development of BJP government at Centre and Gujarat. The Congress must introspect as to why they are losing public support,” the BJP leader said.

Other parties tried to fool people of Gujarat by making promises that can never be fulfilled, but they got a befitting reply, he said.

Fake election surveys & fake promises of the opposition have fallen flat in front of an incumbent government in power for the last 27 years.

BJP president JP Nadda said, “Gujarat has set new records of development in the last two decades under the leadership of Modi Ji and today the people of Gujarat have blessed the BJP and created a new record of victory. Every section has wholeheartedly blessed the BJP. This is the victory of people’s unwavering faith in BJP’s policies.”

We saw a pro-incumbency wave for the Narendra Modi-led BJP:  Pradeep Gupta, CMD, Axis My India

Pradeep Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, Axis My India said, “We saw a pro-incumbency wave for the Narendra Modi-led BJP which combined with a substantial divide in opposition votes between Congress and AAP led to an historic victory for BJP as was predicted in our exit polls too. The party’s strategy of introducing fresh faces by replacing the chief minister and all other ministers, as well as denying tickets to up to 45 incumbent MLAs worked wonders for them.

Development model of PM @narendramodi ji wins record seats in Gujarat.

Congratulations to State President @CRPaatil ji, CM @Bhupendrapbjp ji, Union Home Minister @AmitShah ji, National President @JPNadda ji, PM @narendramodi ji & karyakartas of @BJP4Gujarat. pic.twitter.com/4aE3JAqTR1

— Vanathi Srinivasan ( Modi Ka Parivar) (@VanathiBJP) December 8, 2022

The majority of votes to the saffron party came from Patels, OBCs, and upper castes. As many as 41% of voters chose the party based on the development it brought to the state, while 19% chose it because of the “Modi factor”.

The party additionally garnered more votes from female (48%) and urban voters. AAP’s efforts to undermine the BJP’s fundamental Hindutva tenet backfired. From a comfortable second spot, three months prior, the party began to lose Muslim-Dalit-Adivasi vote blocs to Congress as the decisive Election Day drew near.

Furthermore, the party gave Congress the Muslim-Dalit vote on a silver platter by remaining silent in the Bilkis Bano convict release case. Elections in a vast and diverse democracy like India are a very complicated process, and they get even more complicated in a state like Gujarat with so many different castes and regions (SC,ST, OBC, Thakor, Koli, Muslim, Patel community etc). Our exit poll predictions showcase our strength and scale as an expert polling organisation which understands the pulse of Indian voters.”
