Raising the issue during the Zero Hour in Lok Sabha, the Thoothukudi MP said 10 lakh people were employed in the industry in her constituency and that 90 percent of them were women. As it is a drought-prone area, the job is the only source of income for the people, she added.
4,502 faculty posts vacant in IITs, 493 in IIMs: Union Minister for Education
A total of 4502 posts are vacant in the IITs faculty posts in the IIMs, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan told the Lok Sabha, on Monday.
The Union Minister was answering a question by Tamil Nadu MP, D Ravikumar concerning that more than 33 per cent of sanctioned teaching posts lying vacant in central universities across the country and affecting the quality of education.
Pradhan replied in the house that “Out of 18956 sanctioned teaching posts in 45 Central Universities in regular mode under the purview of Ministry of Education, 12776 posts are filled up and 6180 posts are vacant as on December 1.”
Rajya Sabha passes bill to amend Energy Conservation Act
The Rajya Sabha on Monday passed the Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill, 2022 which seeks to empower the central government to specify a carbon credit trading scheme.
The Bill was passed unanimously. Several opposition members demanded that the Bill be sent to a Parliamentary Committee for scrutiny as it dealt with newer concepts such as carbon markets as a measure to meet emission targets and also alleged that the Bill lacked the involvement of states.

P Wilson, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP from Tamil Nadu, said the Bill proposes the setting up of carbon credit markets but does not clarify how carbon credit certificates will be traded or who will be regulating such trading.
The Lok Sabha has already passed the Bill in August. The Energy Conservation Act, 2001 was also amended in 2010 to address various new factors which emerged with the development of the energy market over a period of time and to provide for more efficient and effective use of energy and its conservation.

1,067 women entrepreneurs registered on Udyam Sakhi Portal from Tamil Nadu till October 2022, the government informed the Rajya Sabha on Monday.
The Udyam Sakhi Portal (https://udyam-sakhi.com) provides the information regarding financial schemes, policies, programmes of the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises to existing/prospective women entrepreneurs in the MSME sector.
Based on composite criteria of classification of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) on account of investment in plant & machinery and turnover of MSMEs, the Ministry has replaced the erstwhile process of filing of Udyog Aadhar Memorandum by Udyam registration including Women entrepreneurs on online portal https://udyamregistration.gov.in from July 2020.
A comprehensive B2B Portal – MSMEmart.com is being operated by the National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) as a one stop digital solution to all business needs of MSMEs across all sectors and provides next generation services to MSMEs to make them competitive in global market. Further, KVIC is also implementing an e-commerce portal ekhadiindia.com to promote sale of khadi and village industry products online.

Defence Corridor to come up in Chennai, Coimbatore, Hosur, Salem, and Tiruchirappalli
To achieve Aatmanirbharta and realise the goal of ‘Make in India’, Government of India has established two Defence Industrial Corridors (DICs) in the country, one in Uttar Pradesh and other in Tamil Nadu. 06 (six) nodes viz. Agra, Aligarh, Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Kanpur and Lucknow have been identified for developing Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UPDIC). Similarly, 05 (five) nodes viz. Chennai, Coimbatore, Hosur, Salem, and Tiruchirappalli identified for developing Tamil Nadu Defence Industrial Corridor (TNDIC).
Government intends to develop defence manufacturing ecosystem having conducive conditions including supply chain for giving push to production and testing & certification to create economies of scale and facilitate development of internationally competitive enterprises in the country.
As per the information received from Government of Uttar Pradesh for UPDIC, 105 Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) have been signed with industries etc. worth potential investments of Rs 12,139 crore. Already, Rs 2,422 crore have been invested in UPDIC. Total 1,608 Hectare of land has been acquired for development of UPDIC.
Further, as per the information received from Government of Tamil Nadu for TNDIC, arrangements have been made through Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) etc. for potential investment of Rs 11,794 crore by 53 industries. Rs 3,847 crore have already been invested in TNDIC. Total 910 Hectare of lands has been acquired for development of TNDIC.
