2939 villages have been identified in Tamil Nadu for implementation of the ‘Adarsh Gram’ component under the scheme of PM-AJAY before 2024, the government informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

This information was given by The Minister of State Social Justice and Empowerment A Narayanaswamy in the Rajya Sabha in a written reply on Wednesday.

The Scheme of Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana (PMAGY) has been merged with some other schemes of the department and is now implemented as the ‘Adarsh Gram’ component under the merged Scheme of Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhuyday Yojana (PM-AJAY). The State-wise details of the number of villages selected for implementation in the last five years under this component of the Scheme is at Annexure-I.

The details of funds sanctioned and utilised under the ‘Adarsh Gram’ component of the Scheme of PM-AJAY for the last five years is at Annexure-II.

A total of 2,939 villages have been identified in Tamil Nadu for implementation of the ‘Adarsh Gram’ component under the scheme of PM-AJAY before 2024.

The list of selected villages in the Pudukottai district of Tamil Nadu under the ‘Adarsh Gram’ component of the scheme from the year 2019-20 is at Annexure-III.

The Ministry periodically undertakes review of the implementation of the scheme through third party evaluation studies. The erstwhile scheme of PMAGY has been reviewed twice in the last three years and based on the recommendations of these reviews; the Scheme of PMAGY has since been merged with the scheme of PM-AJAY for implementation.
