Divisional Railway Manager of Thiruvananthapuram Division of the Southern Railway R Mukund on Thursday unfurled the National Flag to mark the 74th Republic Day celebrations at the Divisional Railway Office, Thiruvananthapuram.
M Vijayakumar, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Tanvi Praful Gupte, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, and other officers and staff of the division were present at the event. After unfurling the National Flag, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) inspected the parade contingents of the Railway Protection Force. This was followed by a March Past by the Parade Contingents.
While addressing the gathering, the DRM stated “This is an occasion to reaffirm our spirit of unity and faith in the Constitution of India. The Indian Railways has nurtured this unity and plays a significant role in the overall growth and economic development of the country by providing the most energy efficient, pollution free and speedy mode of transport.”
The Divisional Railway Manager appreciated the efforts and team work of committed Officers, Supervisors & Staff in the performance of the division.
Performance highlights
- It is a privilege to be leading one of the best performing Divisions of Indian Railways. During the current fiscal period, the division has achieved gross passenger earnings of Rs 1,397 Cr. and parcel earnings of Rs 26.63 Cr.
- The impetus on safety helped in achieving ‘zero’ accidents during the period.
- With bare minimum regulation of train services the renewal of track completed for a total 17.829 Km.
- 125 Special Trains were operated to meet the requirement of Sabarimala Pilgrims as well as passengers travelling during Christmas, New Year and Pongal Festival.
- Infrastructure works were given high priority and thus Valliyur-Nanguneri Double Line section was commissioned during September 2022 and Kochuveli Station new platforms, platform shelters and stabling lines were commissioned in December 2022. Cherthala, Kochuveli, Karunagappally and Nanguneri stations were upgraded with Electronic Interlocking facility. Track doubling in Thiruananthapuram – Kanniyakumari section will get a major boost with the introduction of crossing facility in Nagercoil Town, The final stage works for this will commence today to commission the new Block Station at Nagercoil Town on 17th January, 2023. The work of three Foot Over Bridges (viz. Varkala, Kaniyapuram and Murukkumpuzha) were completed and commissioned in a remarkably short span of three months.
- The Business Development Unit of the division has attracted a new stream of traffic for stone chips in dedicated wagons from Valliyur to Kayamkulam with a traffic lead of 200 Km within the division starting operations on Friday
- The Ophthalmology unit, Dental Unit, Drugs & Surgical stores and administrative section at Railway Hospital at Thiruvananthapuram Pettah has been upgraded with modern infrastructure.
- The division hosted the study visit of two high level committees. The Rajbhasha Parliamentary Committee inspected the division in September 2022 and the Parliamentary Standing Committee of Railways inspected te division in January 2023.
