Experts stressed on early detection of cancer and empathy of kin for sure cure from this dreaded disease. Many cancer survivors attributed to their survival to the doctors and the moral support of their family and friends.
They were speaking at a seminar on ‘Raising Awareness, Changing Lives’, organised by Medisquare Superspeciality Hospital, in association with Sadvichar Parivar, an NGO in Ahmedabad on Saturday to mark the World Cancer Day.
Kickstarting the seminar, Chief Guest and Gujarat’s leading TV Channel GTPL Head Devang Bhatt, said, “With correct diagnosis, treatment and empathy, a third stage cancer patient can also be cured of this dreaded disease. Thanks to Padmashri Dr Pankaj Shah, my mother-in-law won over the cancer and lived long for more than 15 years after the treatment. There are many cancer warriors and oncologists who proved that how doctors’ empathy, best available treatment coupled with the fighting spirit of the patients can create awareness on cancer cure. Our channel will produce a 13-episode health serial highlighting the cancer survivors’ saga of successs, the advanced treatment given by the oncologists and psychiatrists. We hope, this will certainly create awareness among the masses.”
Stating that Lord Krishna was the world’s first psychiatrist who preached Arjuna and the winning mantra of cricketer ‘Thalaiva’ MS Dhoni, eminent psychiatrist Dr Parth Vaishnav, said, ”The society ought to handle cancer patients empathetically like Lord Krishna. In the game of cricket, MS Dhoni used to take hard decision to win over the match. Similarly, the cancer patients need to have the determination to defeat the disease. This can easily be achieved only by the supportive family, friends by boosting their morale to survive in tandem with all healthcare providers.”
Allaying the fears of cancer patients, Medisquare Hospiatl DM oncologist Dr Ekta Vala Chandarana, said, “The sure cure for cancer is early screening. With the advancement in oncology treatment and timely detection, cancer is curable without any side effects. All that the patients needed during and after the treatment is family’s crucial support in completing the course and help lead a contented life like others.”
