CHENNAI, FEB 24
The Shriram Capital Tamil Nadu Premier League completed first-ever player auction in its history. The TNPL 2023 player auction was held for two days (February 23rd & February 24th) at the Welcome Hotel by ITC, Mahabalipuram.
- Sai Sudharsan B attracts the costliest buy of the auction, while new talent Shivam Singh grabbed the spotlight with a high price.
- A total of 144 players picked by the teams in the 2-day Shriram Capital TNPL 2023
- Lyca Kovai Kings buys Kiran Akash L for Rs 6.50 Lakhs making him the highest purchase of Day 02
A total of 144 players were picked by the teams in the 2-day auction that ended on Friday. Regarding the auction’s success, TNCA Honorary secretary R.I Palani said, “We have left a significant mark in history with this auction. Until last year, the TNPL used the drafting system that has given some of the players the limelight they deserved, but a few were left out due to the system’s dynamics. The first-ever auction was a grand success, and it allowed players to be handpicked by the respective team management based on talent and performance, leaving nothing to chance and luck. There were huge surprises involved in the bids, new faces fetching big numbers, while the most expected were stolen for a bargain. This is just the beginning, and plenty will be at stake in the upcoming years. We hope to take the TNPL to the next level not only to the national reach, but to the global level as well, and this auction is just the start of it.”
With many positions to fill and hefty purses remaining, Day 02 promised to see some exciting buys from the team. Defending Champions Chepauk Super Gillies still needed five players to reach their minimum quota and had the least salary purse (Rs 3,20,000), while the shared defending champs Lyca Kovai Kings had 11 slots to meet the minimum player quota with the highest purchase purse of the lot (Rs 22,35,000).
Ba11sy Trichy – 16 player slots filled with a remaining purse of Rs 12,55,000
iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans – 11 player slots filled with a remaining purse of Rs 6,25,000
Chepauk Super Gillies – 11 player slots filled with a remaining purse of Rs 3,20,000
Nellai Royal Kings – 11 player slots filled with a remaining purse of Rs 11,80,000

Salem Spartans – 12 player slots filled with a remaining purse of Rs 15,60,000

Auction Day2 Highlights
Kiran Akash L managed to draw attention from multiple teams, and amidst a strong bidding war, the 26-year-old ex Madurai Panthers bowler was sold to the Lyca Kovai Kings this season for INR 6.50 Lakhs making him the highest purchase of Day 02 of the Shriram Capital TNPL 2023 auction.
The Lyca Kovai Kings reshowed their faith in their top order batsman Mukilesh U sealing the deal with INR 6.00 Lakhs, making him the second costliest buy of the day. In addition, the Kovai Kings also made a speculative buy in youngster Ram Aravindh for INR 3.05 Lakhs. Considering the purchase amount, it would be safe to think the 22-year-old might have a chance to make his TNPL debut this season.
Surya Bala, who represented the Lyca Kovai Kings in the previous season, is set to play for the Siechem Madurai Panthers in the upcoming season. The 26-year-old off-spinner joined the Panthers for INR 4.40 Lakh.
Opening batsman Suryaprakash L was picked by the Nellai Royal Kings again for INR 2.00 Lakhs.
Salem Spartans strengthened their spin quota, getting the talented left-arm spinner Sachin Rathi for INR 2.70 Lakhs while also adding promising wicket-keeper batsman Kavin R to their line up for INR 2.00 Lakhs.
Madurai Panthers pounced on youngster Ajay K Krishnan for INR 1.90 Lakh while also managing to acquire the services of experienced opening batsman Karthik S for INR 2.00 Lakh in the accelerated auction.
Out of the Eight Teams, six teams managed to complete their full quota of 20 players. Newly inducted Ba11sy Trichy (with Karthick Shanmugam G for INR 50,000) were the first ones to complete their full allotted quota, followed by Salem Spartans (with Prasanth R for INR 50,000), iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans (with Ragavan M for INR 50,000), Nellai Royal Kings (with Adithya A for INR 50,000), Sichem Madurai Panthers (with Karthik S for INR 2,00,000) and Dindigul Dragons (with Affan Khader M for INR 50,000).
