AP Govt. decided to strengthen enforcement wing to curb illegal liquor brewing and sand mining

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to depute two-thirds of the prohibition and excise department staff to the enforcement wing to effective curb illegal liquor manufacture and sand mining in the state.

This decision was taken at a review meeting held by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on liquor and sand policy here on Thursday. The Chief Minister said that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have to be strictly adhered to for achieving best results in enforcing the policy.

The Chief Minister said the revolutionary changes in the governance by setting up village secretariats, Rythu Bharosa centres and YSR Village Clinics were being taken up to bring about a drastic change in the administration from the grass-roots level. Illegal sand mining and liquor manufacture were impediments in the smooth functioning of the administration.

Hence, he said the police and prohibition and excise departments have to function strictly to curb such anomalies. The services of over 11,000 Mahila police contingent has to be utilized effectively by making them use the phones given to them in curbing illegal liquor trade and sand excavation. The services of Mahila Mitra volunteers would also have to be utilized effectively, he added.

Minister for Panchayati Raj & Rural development, Geology & Mining Peddi Reddy Ramachandra Reddy and Chief Secretary Neelam Sawhney were present, says a release.
