Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Governor of Tamil Nadu RN Ravi will attend the inauguration ceremony of the Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam programme on Monday, April 17. Chief Ministers of different states have also been invited to participate in the programme.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Prabhas Patan – Somnath in Gujarat which was likely to take place on 17th April is now cancelled, it is learnt. Earlier the Prime Minister had allotted 11 am to 1 pm time for his Somnath visit on April 17.
As per the revised schedule, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will come to Gujarat on April 26. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the closing ceremony of the Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam programme.
According to sources, the visit is cancelled due to his meeting with a foreign delegation.
Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam is going to be held from April 17 to 26.
Meanwhile, Tamils residing in Gujarat will leave their respective cities on Sunday, April 16, evening and will reach Somnath on Monday morning to welcome their brethren from Tamil Nadu.
Madurai-Veraval special train to commence on Tamil Puthandu
The Southern Railway will run Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam Special Fare train (06301) from Madurai to Veraval between April 14 and 23. The return special fare train No is 06302.
The first train will leave on Tamil Puthandu, Friday, April 14, at 5:40 pm from Madurai and will reach Chennai Egmore at 1:30 am. After 20 minutes halt, the train will leave Egmore station at 1:50 am and will reach Veraval in Gujarat on fourth day, April 17, at 7:30 am.
The subsequent trains running between April 15 and 23 will reach Veraval at 9 am of fourth day. This train will have stoppages at Dindugal, Tiruchirappalli, Villupuram, Tambaram, Chennai, Renigunta, Kacheguda, Hazur Saheb Nanded, Purna, Akola, Jalgaon, Nandurbar, Surat, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Surndranagar and Rajkot.
The Rake composition is LHB Rake, 1 EOG, 1 SLR, 6 3AC, 2 SL, 1 Pantry Car, 4 Second Class and one coach for disabled = 15 Coaches.
The Saurashtrian Tamils will be visiting Somnath, Dwarka, Vadodara, the Statue of Unity, and other places.
Sports events
As part of the Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam initiative, a sports festival will also be organised in Gujarat under the Olympic associations of the two states. The festival is to be organised in Bhavnagar tentatively between April 19 and 22.
According to an official release from the state government, the sports festival—Sports Challengers Trophy—will include competitions in tennis, table tennis, kabaddi, swimming and volleyball.
