The Indian Maritime University offering specialised marine related courses has on Wednesday announced the opening of registrations for admission to the programs for the next academic year (2023-24).

  • Common Entrance Test would be held in English and Hindi on June 10, across the country
  • Students can opt their campus of studies at the main campus in Chennai and other campuses at Kochi, Kolkata, Navi Mumbai, Sewri Mumbai, and Vishakapatnam
  • In Tamil Nadu the awareness is being created through the ‘Naan Mudhalvan’, STEM programme of the school education department and career guidance programmes at all the government schools: Dr Malini Shankar

Addressing the media, IMU Vice Chancellor of the University Dr Malini V Shankar said that students who wish to take admissions have to register at the website of the University at https://apply.registernow.in/IMUCET/Registration2023/

Last date for registration IMU-CET for UG and PG courses and MBA is May 18. The Common Entrance Test (CET) will be held on June 10, across the country.

The counselling for admission would be held through online according to the marks/ranks obtained by the candidates in CET. Common Entrance Test would be held in English and Hindi. Students can opt their campus  of studies at the main campus in Chennai and other campuses at Kochi, Kolkata, Navi Mumbai, Sewri Mumbai, and Vishakapatnam.

Apart from this, the students who have completed Plus 2 can pursue maritime courses at the 17 affiliated colleges across the country. Out of the 17 colleges, 7 are in Tamil Nadu, the VC added.

The university has the total number of 995 seats in UG and PG courses across all its campuses. Of these 80 per cent of the seats were filled up every year.

Replying to a query, the Vice Chancellor said that the university charges Rs. 2.25 lakh as fee for UG courses per year.

Lake of awareness on the employment-oriented marine courses offered by the University among the Plus 2 passed candidates is the cause for concern. Out of the 955 seats in the University, the number of candidates pursuing maritime courses from Tamil Nadu is about 100, the VC said.

With a view to create awareness among the IMU and the courses offered by it, the university is conducting outreach programmes in government and private schools across the country. In Tamil Nadu the awareness is being created through the ‘Naan Mudhalvan’, STEM programme of the school education department and career guidance programmes at all the government schools, Dr Malini Shankar added.

The Vice-Chancellor informed that in order to encourage more women cadets in the maritime field, a memorandum of understanding has been signed with MARTRADE which has granted scholarships to 26 girl students of the University.

K Saravanan, Registrar, Dr Rajoo Balaji, Dean (i/c) CTR Department and Director-IMU Chennai Campus, Cdr KD Joshi (retd) Controller of Examination-IMU, M Saravanan, Finance Officer, IMU were present.
