COIMBATORE, JUNE 20
Sending a stern warning to social media handlers while posting comments, the cyber crime police in Coimbatore on Tuesday arrested a woman BJP supporter over alleged defamatory posts against social activist Periyar, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Dr Kalaignari and Chief Minister MK Stalin. The action was taken after the coordinator of the DMK’s IT Wing, Harish, filed a complaint.
Condemning this as the “cowardice of the DMK”, Balaji Uthama Ramasamy, BJP Coimbatore district chief, said that the party flagged Gargi’s arrest.
Uma Gargi was arrested after Harish, in his complaint to the police, alleged that her tweets defamed Periyar, M Karunanidhi and MK Stalin and were posted to create unrest among the public.
“This only shows the cowardice of the DMK. No action was taken against the people who spoke in an obscene manner against an NCW member. Since you are unable to deny the contents of the social media posts, you are using the police to arrest people. We are not afraid of such arrests,” he said.
