Conditions are now favourable for the progress of monsoon in the next two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

Ten days back, cyclone Biparjoy had lashed Kutch-Saurashtra region of Gujarat. The cyclone that made landfall near Jakhau Port on June 15 evening, left a trail of destruction as it uprooted nearly 600 trees, damaged many houses and rendered thousands of villages without power.

“Monsoon entered Gujarat on Sunday and conditions are favourable for its further progress in the state during the next 48 hours,” director of the Ahmedabad centre of the IMD, Manorama Mohanty, said.

Due to cyclone Biparjoy, there was a delay of a few days in its arrival in south Gujarat. But in others parts of the state it is well on time, she said.

Parts of the state are likely to receive heavy rainfall during the next five days, Mohanty added.

The line (northern limit of monsoon) is passing from Veraval and V V Nagar in Anand district and going towards Rajasthan between Kheda and Ahmedabad, the official said.

On Sunday, parts of Saurashtra region and south Gujarat districts received heavy rainfall, the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) said.

Districts of Bhavnagar, Botad, Amreli and Rajkot in Saurashtra, and Surat and Bharuch in south Gujarat received between 30-75 mm rainfall, the SEOC said.

As per the SEOC data, Ghogha taluka in Bhavnagar district received 75 mm rainfall, the highest in the state, followed by Barwala in Botad district with 44 mm rainfall. They were among 82 talukas that received some amount of rainfall during the day.

Heavy rainfall lashed parts of central Gujarat during 24 hours till Sunday morning, the SEOC data showed. Several parts of Panchmahal, Kheda, Vadodara and Anand district received between 50-90 mm rainfall during this period.

In its forecast for the next five days, the IMD said that many places in the state will receive light to moderate rainfall with heavy rainfall at isolated places.

The met department also issued a heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for south Gujarat districts on Tuesday and Wednesday.
