Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intention is that all States and Union Territories should progress as it would ensure a wholistic development of the country. Launching ‘Credit Outreach programme’ at a function organised by State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) here, she said, “Prime Minister is keen that the poor and have-nots, women and weaker sections in all the States and Union Territories should benefit under the various schemes.”
The Finance Minister sanctioned loan letters to 1.41 lakh beneficiaries in the Union Territory to the tune of Rs 2,628 crore under different programmes, including Housing and Mudra schemes of the Central government operated by the public sector banks.

Sitharaman said that she had found during the review meeting of the saturation drive of various Central Government’s Flagship Schemes in Puducherry in the presence of Chief Minister of Puducherry N Rangaswamy, that Puducherry had implemented various schemes completely.
The saturation drive in Puducherry was initiated in February 2023 at the behest of the Union Finance Minister with the assistance and support of the Government of Puducherry, the Department of Financial Services, Banks and other institutions.
The idea was to maximise the reach of the Union Government’s flagship schemes to all the eligible beneficiaries in the Union Territory, in line with the vision of the Prime Minister.
“The coordinated work and implementation of 22 flagship programmes by the territorial administration, ministers and also the banks in Puducherry had enabled the saturation of execution of the schemes evolved by the Centre,” she said.
On the occasion, the Union Minister handed over a food delivery vehicle to Akshaya Patra Foundation under the Corporate Social Responsibility scheme of Indian Bank and five defibrillators to the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services of Puducherry.
Credit Outreach Programme in Puducherry
After the review meeting, Sitharaman also participated in a Credit Outreach Programme at Tagore Arts College, Lawspet (Puducherry), where beneficiaries received sanction letters from various banks under different schemes.
The total amount sanctioned is Rs 2,628.38 crore to 1.41 lakh beneficiaries (approximately) under MUDRA, Stand-Up, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), PM SVANidhi, PMEGP (PM Employment Guarantee Programme), KCC (Crop & Animal Husbandry) & Miscellaneous Retail loans etc.
Among the 1.41 lakh loan accounts being sanctioned today, more than 1 lakh loan accounts pertain to Agriculture, Animal Husbandry & Fisheries.
During the event, Sitharaman sanction letters to various beneficiaries, totalling to Rs 49.58 crore under RIDF, for augmentation of water supply system at Veerampattinam, Ariyankuppam and Thirumalairayanpattinam, supported by NABARD. She also handed over sanction letters to FPOs through NABKISAN, a subsidiary of NABARD, totalling Rs 50 lakh to Karaikal Marutham FPCL, Karaikal and Thirukameswarar Hitech Agro FPCL.
The Finance Minister handed over a cheque of Rs 10.25 lakh to the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Puducherry for five defibrillators sponsored by Indian Bank under its CSR initiative for improving health infrastructure in the Union Territory.
Speaking on the occasion, Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan said the Union Territory government was functioning in tandem with the Centre and this had resulted in speedy execution of various projects.
Chief Minister N Rangasamy said the loans granted for the poor were very effective as they were saved from the clutches of the private money lenders. He appealed to the beneficiaries to sincerely repay the loans.

Under its CSR initiatives, Indian Bank, SLBC Convenor and Lead Bank, Puducherry, handed over a food delivery vehicle to Akshaya Patra Foundation to support its implementation of PM POSHAN Abhiyaan (formerly known as the Mid-day Meal Scheme) and 5 defibrillators to the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services, Puducherry. State Bank of India also flagged off a Mobile ATM Van today.
Also present during the programme were senior officials of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Puducherry Government, banks and other institutions.
