Geri Care, India’s first multi-speciality hospital for senior citizens, unveiled its second facility with 100-bedded elder-friendly hospital near Adambakkam MRTS Station in Chennai on Sunday.
Doyen of elder cares Dr V S Natarajan and 97-year old former IAS Officer K Lakshmi Kanthan Bharathi inaugurated the facility in the presence of Dr Lakshmipathy Ramesh, Founder & Managing Director, Geri Care and renowned medical professionals.
Addressing after inaugurating the facility Dr V S Natarajan said, “India has more than 138 million elderly population. The proportion of the elderly population in India has increased to 10.1% in 2021 and is further likely to increase to 13.1% in 2031. In addition, 1 in 4 Indians has a risk of dying from Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) before they reach the age of 70. Dementia is on the rise as well with over 8.8 million people living with the condition”.

Dr V S Natarajan suggested the senior citizens should start planning their post-retirement life such as – financial security, health care etc. They should live their life independently and not a dependent. Retiring from service after 60 or 65 years is not the end of one’s life and it is beginning of peaceful life, he added.
Addressing media on the sidelines of inauguration, Dr Lakshmipathy Ramesh, Founder & Managing Director, Geri Care said, “The newly inaugurated 100-bedded Geri Care Hospital has state-of-the-art Geriatric ICU, elder friendly rooms, round-the-clock geriatric emergency services, dialysis services, fully equipped laminar air flow operation theatres, advanced CT scan, laboratory services and pharmacy services. The location will help us serve patients from Tharamani to Tambaram and from Guindy to Chrompet. The hospital is managed by more than 12 Geriatricians who are experts in handling complex problems of the elderly. Not just physical, even the emotional condition of the patients is considered while treating the elderly people.”
