The Historical Cars Association of India (HCAI), a Vintage & Classic Car Federation, will be organizing a first-of-its-kind Pan India Vintage and Classic Car Show on 27th August 2023 in Chennai. The car show will be held from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm.
Every year since 2017, HCAI has been organizing the Vintage Car show in Chennai during Madras week celebrations. In the early years, historians Muthiah and V Sriram used to deliver talks linking old vintage cars to the history of Chennai. This event unfortunately had to stop during the pandemic. But this year, HCAI comes back with a bigger pan India Vintage Car show. The clubs participating in the event include HMCI from Delhi, VCCCI from Mumbai, EMCI from Kolkata and KVCCCI from Bangalore.
The Historical Cars Association of India (HCAI) along with the Greater Chennai traffic police is using this event to bring awareness on Road Safety while conducting this road show. The Rotary Club of Madras is also associating with this event to promote skilling for the underprivileged.
The cars that would be displayed are rare Classics & Vintage, some marque models of Rolls Royce, Bentleys, and Jaguars. These vibrant yesteryear beauties include cars from Royal Families (Bentley of Baroda Maharani Shanta Devi), Pre & Post-war European and American cars (Austin, Mercedes, Jeep), Cars of Hollywood stars (Bentley), American muscle cars (Ford Mustang) and prominent Indian classics (Ambassador, Fiat’s).
Talking about the vintage on wheels, Ranjit Pratap, President of HCAI, said “Vintage car fraternity of India was planning such a show for a long-time which somehow got delayed due to the pandemic. Despite many hurdles and notwithstanding the rains and floods in western and northern zones we have managed a sizeable participation from these two regions with almost 20 plus cars. We also have prominent companies, including MRF, TAFE, ITC, Rayala Group of Companies, Ocean Interiors, VGN, etc. Hospitality Partners will be Hotel Turyaa on OMR, ITC Chola, and Radisson as sponsors.”
“This is the first of this kind initiative by HCAI and its Committee and we hope it will be an annual event with longer drives from Chennai to other important destinations in South” Mr. Pratap added.
On Monday, 28th August 2023, HCAI is organizing a Vintage Car Rally from Chennai to Pondicherry. The rally is sponsored by GRT Group in association with the Radisson Hotel. There will be a display of Vintage & Classic beauties at the Radisson Hotel in Pondicherry the same day.
Top Vintage & Classic car collectors from all over India, including Nitin Dossa, Vivek Goenka, Madan Mohan, Diljeet Titus, and Poonawalla are expected to participate in this event. From the South, prominent Car Clubs from Bengaluru, Palghat, Coimbatore, and Kochi will also be participating. The event will culminate with a visit to the famous AVM Car Museum at Vadapalani.
