CHENNAI, AUG 27

The Historical Cars Association of India (HCAI) on Sunday organized the first-of-its-kind Pan India Vintage and Classic Car Show at the Rayala Techno Park at the Hotel Turyya Campus on Old Madras Road here. Sandeep Rai Rathore IPS, Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai Police was the Chief Guest at the function.

A crowd of more than 1,000 people from all walks of life visited the show admiring the Vintage classics and eagerly interacting with the owners of the cars. There were a total of 56 cars on display and 12 two-wheelers. The Vintage cars included a few Rolls Royce, Bentleys and Jaguars, Austin, Mercedes, Jeeps, Ford Mustangs and prominent Indian Classics, the Ambassador and Fiat.

Every year since 2017, HCAI has been organizing the Vintage Car show in Chennai during Madras Week celebrations. This year, HCAI organized a bigger pan India Vintage Car show. The clubs participating in the event include HMCI from Delhi, VCCCI from Mumbai, EIMG from Kolkata and KVCCCI from Bangalore.

The Historical Cars Association of India (HCAI) along with the Greater Chennai traffic police is using this event to bring awareness about Road Safety while conducting this road show. The Rotary Club of Madras is also associating with this event to promote skilling for the underprivileged.

Sandeep Rai Rathore IPS, Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai City Police, said, “I appreciate the efforts of the owners in maintaining these old vintage cars in such good condition. With so many visitors here, it is a good opportunity for me to request everyone to drive carefully. Road safety is important, and everyone should keep that in mind every time you are on the driving on the roads. I wish HCAI all the best for this event.”

Ranjit Pratap, President of HCAI said, “The Vintage car fraternity of India was planning such a show for a long-time which got delayed due to the pandemic. But despite many hurdles and notwithstanding the rains and floods in western and northern zones we have managed a sizeable participation from these two regions with almost 20 plus cars. Today we have some rare classics and the oldest car on display is my T Ford from 1926. This is the first of this kind of an initiative by HCAI and its Committee and I hope it will be an annual event with longer drives from Chennai to other important destinations in the South.”

V S Kylas, Secretary, HCAI said, “This is the first time that such an event has taken place with participants from all over India. The response from our members has been overwhelming and it gives me great happiness to see the crowds enjoying viewing these vintage cars. Each and every car you see here is road worthy and has been painstakingly restored to its original condition by their proud owners.”

Rajesh Ambal, Vice President, HCAI said, “All these cars here are owned by renowned families across India. Their ownership is now undergoing a generational change. I would urge everyone to respect these Vintage classics like how you would respect your parents. I am thrilled that we could have a pan India show in Chennai and the response has been great.”

On 28th August 2023, HCAI is organizing a Vintage Car Rally from Chennai to Pondicherry. The rally is sponsored by GRT Group in association with the Radisson Hotel. On the 28th of August, 2023, there will be a display of Vintage and Classic Cars at the Radisson Hotel in Pondicherry.

Top Vintage & Classic car collectors from all over India including Nitin Dossa, Vivek Goenka, Madan Mohan, Diljeet Titus, and Poonawalla participated in this event. From the South, prominent Car Clubs from Bangalore, Palghat, Coimbatore, and Kochi will also be participating.  The Event will culminate with a visit to the famous AVM Car Museum at Vadapalani.
