Ahead of festive season, the Scoot, a low-cost subsidiary (proud little sister) of Singapore Airlines (SIA) on Thursday announced the recommencement of its Chennai-Singapore-Chennai operations from November 5 after a three-year hiatus, as part of a strategic restructuring of services with its parent to adapt to changing demand patterns. However, it is withdrawing from Hyderabad and Bengaluru, where Singapore Airlines (SIA) is ramping up services instead.

- The airline will now operate 44-weekly flights to and from six Indian destinations – Amritsar, Coimbatore, Trichy, Tthiruvananthapuram and Vizag and Chennai
- It is withdrawing from Hyderabad and Bengaluru, where Singapore Airlines (SIA) is ramping up services instead
- The move comes as part of a strategic restructuring of services with its parent to adapt to changing demand patterns
Underscoring the airline’s commitment to offer affordable, seamless, and unique travel experiences to customers and also ensuring convenient access to major cities across the globe via Singapore, the Scoot will again begin its operations from Chennai. The addition of this direct flight on the airline’s Airbus A320 aircraft will enhance the international accessibility of Chennai and connect domestic business and leisure travellers to Scoot’s wider network in Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Europe.
Announcing the launch at the media conference, Brian Torey, General Manager for India and West Asia, Scoot, said, “India has always been an important market for Scoot, and we are thrilled to commence Chennai-Singapore-Chennai daily operations again. We are committed to serving the growing demand for travel in this market and connecting travellers from the capital city of Tamil Nadu to Scoot’s extensive network beyond Singapore, such as Melbourne, Hanoi, Bangkok, Seoul and even Guangzhou. Be it a business traveller seeking for convenience or a leisure traveller searching for his next vacation destination, Scoot is looking forward to welcoming all Indian travellers on board soon.”
He also announced slew of offers from allowing 3 kgs extra hand baggage etc through power point presentation. Brian Torey, shared Scoot’s optimism towards the Indian market and discussed future plans and developments as a leading low-cost carrier.
Including Chennai, Scoot now operates to six destinations in India, including Amritsar, Coimbatore, Tiruchirappalli, Thiruvananthapuam, and Visakhapatnam.
When asked about connecting other cities in India, Brian said that the airlines will expand its operations after getting necessary approval from the government authorities.
To mark the launch, the airlines will extend promotional offers for the inaugural flight.
