Every year Vigilance Awareness Week is observed by Office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry, Chennai as an outreach measure to create greater awareness about the importance of integrity and ethics in public life. This year, for Vigilance Awareness Week – from 30th October, 2023 to 05th November, 2023, the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has given the theme of ‘Say no to corruption; Commit to the Nation’.

It is observed every year to commemorate the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel – the first Home Minister of the country, which falls on October 30.
As part of the Vigilance Awareness Week, M Rathinasamy, IRS, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Retd.) delivered the keynote address on this year’s theme “Say No to Corruption; Commit to the Nation” at Vaigai Hall, Income Tax Office Campus, 121, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Nungambakkam, Chennai – 600 034 on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, M Rathinasamy, IRS, said, “The vigilance is not only the job of those who are posted in that particular department or section alone. Everybody has to participate and thus everyone of us is a Vigilance Officer.”
He emphasised that Government promotes Vigilance Awareness not only for Government Departments, it is also for general public and corporate sector to promote integrity.
During the occasion, the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry Sunil Mathur, IRS presided over the function and Swapna Nanu Ambatt, IRS, Additional Director General, Vigilance (South Zone), Chennai delivered the Welcome address.
The observance of Vigilance Awareness Week is taken up to encourage all stakeholders to collectively participate in the prevention of corruption. The celebrations also encourage stakeholders to fight against corruption and to raise public awareness regarding the existence, causes and gravity of and the threat posed by corruption.
Senior Officers and Officials of the Income Tax fraternity participated and benefitted from the key note address.
