To support meritorious students in overcoming financial constraints, SSN and Shiv Nadar University Chennai awarded scholarships worth Rs 5 Crores to 600 students from the two institutions in a joint ceremony.
- For postgraduate technical courses, GATE rank holders enrolling in ME/MTech programs can earn a merit scholarship of up to Rs 1,00,000 per annum based on their GATE score and percentile

K Deenabandu, IAS (Retired), Chairman State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC) graced the occasion as the chief guest. The other dignitaries present included Srinivasan, Chancellor of Shiv Nadar University Chennai; Dr Kala Vijayakumar, President of SSN Institutions and Pro-Chancellor of Shiv Nadar University Chennai; Dr Sriman Kumar Bhattacharyya, Vice-Chancellor of Shiv Nadar University Chennai; Dr VE Annamalai, Principal of SSN College of Engineering and eminent alumni of SSN Institutions.
Applauding the scholarship recipients for their hard work and determination, K Deenabandu, IAS (Retired), Chairman of the State Expert Appraisal Committee (SEAC), congratulated SSN Institutions for supporting deserving, meritorious students across all strata. Addressing the students, he said, “Learning does not only happen inside the classroom; it is a 24×7 opportunity. Do not wait for opportunities; you must go out and create them. Armed with the knowledge you have gained and the human values you have imbibed, remember to do something that makes a difference in the lives of a large number of needy people.”
Speaking on the occasion, R Srinivasan, Chancellor of Shiv Nadar University Chennai said, “These scholarships represent our philanthropic commitment to discovering and fostering emerging talent in academics and sports, ensuring that financial constraints never obstruct deserving students from pursuing education. Since 1999, SSN Institutions have awarded scholarships across numerous categories, benefiting over 10,000 students with a total of Rs 90 crore, thus empowering them to reach new heights of success.”
Elaborating on the genesis of the scholarship scheme, Dr Kala Vijayakumar, President of SSN Institutions and Pro-Chancellor of Shiv Nadar University Chennai shared, “Mr. Shiv Nadar is himself a standing example of the benefits of a scholarship scheme, as he completed his education through a merit scholarship. Keeping his vision in mind, the scholarship schemes aim to recognize excellence across various domains and provide vital financial assistance to those in need. This has been further strengthened by the continuous support from our alumni and corporate partners who have contributed to the corpus for meritorious deserving students.”
The Scholarship Scheme provides various scholarship opportunities to eligible students enrolled in our Engineering and MBA programs. These scholarships include:
- Merit-based Scholarship- This scholarship was granted to the top 2 to 3 students in each department based on their outstanding academic performance. It can cover up to 100% of their tuition fees.
- Merit cum Means Scholarship – Awarded to meritorious students from lower economic strata satisfying academic criteria
- Waiver of Tuition Fees- For first-year students who achieve the highest marks in their 10+2 examinations, a 100% tuition fee waiver is provided. Senior students can also benefit from this scholarship based on their previous year’s performance.
- Walk-in-Walk-out Scholarships- Awarded to the top 10 rank holders of State or Central Board Examinations at the 10+2 level who wish to pursue a B.E. or B.Tech. degree. This scholarship offers a 100% tuition fee waiver.
- Scholarship to Toppers of Rural Government Higher Secondary Schools – acronymed as SPURS – Scholarship for Potential Undergraduate Rural Students: This special scheme supports 25 government school toppers from rural areas pursuing a B.E. or B.Tech. degree at SSN College of Engineering. It covers all educational expenses, including boarding, for the entire duration of their study.
- Post Graduate Scholarships- Designed for students seeking an M.E. or M.Tech. program in Engineering at SSN. Selection is based on their University rank or GATE score, with a requirement of 90+ percentile.
- Sports Scholarships- Open to students with an exceptional sports record, including those who have represented their state in national-level competitions sanctioned by accredited Sports Boards.
- Alumni Scholarship- Awarded by the SSN Alumni Association through an interview and academic performance evaluation. Only 35 students are eligible each year, and this year, over 100 alumni have contributed to this scheme.
- Special Scholarships- Reserved for students with outstanding achievements in Indian classical music.
