The league, earlier known as Golden Baby League, has been renamed as Adani Blue Cubs League Football this year. Associating with the competition reflects Adani Group’s commitment to the growth of sports at the grassroots level.

More than 2,000 children from across the state are expected to participate in the competition, which is taking place in under-8, under-10 and under-12 categories.

The All India Football Federation organised the first edition of the Golden Baby League in 2018 and the second in 2019. The tournament was not organised after that because of the Covid-19 disruption. With the third edition finally being back, there is a lot of excitement about the competition.

Sharing information about the competition, Mulrajsinh Chudasama, Honorary General Secretary of Gujarat State Football Association, said, “We are thrilled to present the third edition of the tournament that is playing a key role in popularising football in Gujarat. The tournament is being played as per the All India Football Federation’s Blue Cubs league format. Teams from 24 districts in Gujarat are participating. The league has received an overwhelming response and we are confident we will see great football over the next three months.”

Chudasama said that the previous edition of the league witnessed the participation of over 2,000 children from 19 districts in the state.

Measures have also been initiated to improve the quality of coaching, which can lead to raising the level of football-NE photo

Instead of the traditional zero, one and three points for loss, draw and win respectively, teams in the Adani Blue Cubs League Football will be awarded one, two and three points in the event of losing, drawing or winning a match. The objective of the consolation point for the losing team is to ensure the team members’ enthusiasm for the remainder of the competition.

To increase the popularity of football in the state, Chudasama is launching the All India Football Federation’s FIFA Football for Schools project in Gujarat. Footballs are being provided to government schools to increase the sport’s popularity and appeal. Measures have also been initiated to improve the quality of coaching, which can lead to raising the level of football.
