The Special Judge for CBI cases, Chennai has sentenced R Sekar (IRS), former Protector of Emigrants (POE), Chennai to undergo seven years Rigorous Imprisonment and Anwar Hussain, a recruiting agent to undergo 4 years RI. A total fine of Rs 18,000 was also imposed on the accused.
A release from PIB said, the CBI had registered a case against the accused and others. It was alleged that during the period from 2007 to 2009, R Sekar, then Protector of Emigrants (POE) along with others, including Anwar Hussain, a recruiting agent, entered into a conspiracy and in pursuance of that, Anwar Hussain, had allegedly collected bribe amount in the form of ‘Speed Money’ from various recruiting agents for clearance of Emigration Certificates, submitted by the agents, and handed over the said bribe amount to then Protector of Emigrants (POE) & also other public servants.
It was further alleged that out of the bribe amount, Rs.13 lakh (approx) was handed over to an unknown person for arranging Engineering admission to the son of R Sekar. The said amount was recovered. After investigation, a charge sheet was filed against the accused. The trial court found the said accused guilty and convicted them, the release added.
