With an aim to empower specially abled ‘Divyang’ artisans and entrepreneurs, Ahmedabad-based Metrobit Foundation, the CSR arm of MetroBit Networks Pvt Ltd, will organize a week-long ‘Divyang Exhibition’ here, said Alpesh Gevaria and Rakshaben Gevaria couple, trustees of the Foundation here on Tuesday.
“The expo will offer a perfect platform for exploring new opportunities and resources, networking, expanding possibilities, and enhancing the lives of people with disabilities. Only disabled people are participating in this Divyang Mela. While there is no rent for the Divyang stalls they will also be provided free food and accommodation. Only Divyangs will display and sell their items in this fair. Through this platform they will be able to easily connect with every section of the society and they will get a huge market for their products,” said Alpesh Gevaria and Rakshaben Gevaria.
Former chief secretary and sociopreneur PK Lahiri will inaugurate the first-ever special ‘Divyang’ exhibition of Ahmedabad on Monday, January 15. The seven-day expo will be held at Ahmedabad Haat in Vastrapur, Ahmedabad from 15th to 21st January 2024.
PK Lahiri spoke at length on the significance of paying back to the society and working for the inclusivity of Divyangs.
The event, which provides a platform for marketing and showcasing the products and skills of Divyangjan (PwD), would showcase diverse products from various parts of the country from Jammu, Cuttack, Hyderabad, Mumbai. These include handicrafts, handlooms, embroidery works, packaged food and other items.
In this fair, there will be more than 80 stalls of disabled people living in different cities of Gujarat like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and other states of the country showcasing their products and skills. It will be an opportunity for all to shop local and support the specially abled artisans.
The fair will have more than 80 stalls of disabled people living in different cities across the country. The exhibition will have attractions like inspirational talks by the disabled, knowledge sharing workshops, community cooperation etc.
The main objective of the exhibition is to bring the products made by disabled people living in different cities on one platform to strengthen their economic viability and become self-sustainable. The exhibition will have art and craft, as well as food stalls. Some of the disabled are participating in this exhibition have also received awards for their arts and crafts at the state level.
Two teachers of Umang Education and Research Centre, including a deaf fine arts teacher, a special school for the hearing impaired, and one hearing impaired software developer who has been working for the upskilling of peoplelike him have demonstrated their activities.
