Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat on Wednesday inaugurated the state-of-the-art auditorium ‘Aravali’ at the Indian Coast Guard District Headquarters No 1 in Porbandar to mark its 48th Raising Day.
This auditorium will provide capacity to host high level meets/functions at Porbandar, an ICG release said.
The governor lauded the role of ICG in safeguarding seas and made special mention of its actions against anti-national elements wherein the Region had witnessed apprehension of 61 kgs of Narcotics worth Rs 425 crores, three foreign vessels and 22 foreign nationals in the last one year. He also praised its role in saving 85 lives at sea over the year and proactive actions during Cyclone Biparjoy which ensured zero loss of life at sea during the cyclone.
The event was also attended by distinguished guests from Centre/State Government and other Armed Forces.
The ICG, now a well-recognized maritime Armed Force, had made beginning with just seven ships in 1978, and in last four decades grown exponentially into a cognet force with more than 150 ships and 70 aircraft. ICG plays a significant role in maintaining security and safety in the maritime zones of zones of India and beyond.

The Headquarters, on an average deploys 20/25 ships and 2/3 aircraft on a daily basis for security surveillance and maintain constant vigil against adversaries at sea.
