On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Indian Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (North West) at Gandhinagar and District/Station headquarters and units under the RHQ organised various campaigns and events to mark the occasion, a Defence release said.
Tree plantation drives & beach cleanup were carried out at various locations across the region. At Gandhinagar, the tree plantation drive was presided by DIG RH Nandodkar, TM, CSO (Tech) RHQ (NW); while Porbandar and Okha saw plantation of more than 500 trees and cleanup of Okha Beach respectively.
Notable among the activities was the active participation by tiny tots of Coast Guard Kindergarten at Porbandar showing environmental awareness in the young minds. Among slew of environmental awareness activities themed on aspects of ‘Our land Our Future’ & ‘Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience’; these tiny toys were explained about the importance of trees in our environment.
The Indian Coast Guard is contributing significantly in protection and preservation of our environment besides combating marine oil pollution in Indian Territorial waters/EEZ.
