Director General of Railway Health Services Dr Man Singh inaugurated the Constellation Phaco vitrectomy with Posterior Segment Laser System at the Perambur Railway Hospital here on Thursday.

Earlier, Dr Man Singh, visited and inspected the new Out Patient block and the Theatre block of the New Railway Hospital at Perambur. He was accompanied by Dr Raveendran, Principal Executive Director (Health), Railway Board, Dr CM Ravi, Principal Chief Medical Director, Southern Railway, Dr. Nirmala Rajaram, Principal Chief Medical Director, Perambur Railway Hospital and Dr S Kalyani, Medical Director, Perambur Railway Hospital.

- On an average around 1,400 outpatient and 42 inpatient employees and their families are being treated at the hospital daily

Dr. Man Singh inspected all floors, including three Modular Intensive Care Units and all Modular Operation Theatres. He also inspected the New Additional Hospital Buildings presently under construction.
In the Ophthalmology section of Perambur Hospital, Dr. Singh inaugurated the Constellation Phaco vitrectomy with Posterior Segment Laser System, a recent advancement in cataract surgery and the first of its kind in Indian Railways. The benefits of phaco vitrectomy laser treatment for eyes include treatment for Diabetic retinopathy, Retinal detachment, Vitreous hemorrhage, severe infection of the eye, Severe eye injury, macular lesions, and to treat certain problems after cataract surgery.
Benefits of phaco vitrectomy laser treatment for eyes
- Used for performing sutureless cataract (Kan porai) surgery with only 2.2 to 2.8mm size clear corneal incision (small incision in karu vizhi or cornea).
- Foldable lens (plastic, foldable)can be injected into the eye through this incision.
- There is no need for suturing the wound because the incision size is very small.
- Faster healing without pain or irritation
- Patients can do their normal activities the very next day.
- Excellent Visual recovery
- Used for all retinal surgery ( Kan vizhi thirai) and clearing bleed inside the eye following Diabetic retinopathy or following eye injury.
