Praising the Modi 3.0 Budget for its pragmatic and innovative approach to boosting growth of all sectors, Gujarat Garment Manufacturers Association (GGMA) President Vijay Purohit said that the government could have done better for the garment industry to compete with Vietnam and Bangladesh.

Gujarat Garment Manufacturers Association (GGMA President) Vijay Purohit, Dayal Lalwani (Jay & Soham Pvt Ltd), Prakash / Kushal Darji (Kushal Clothing LLP), Raju Kothari (Lee Vee Apparels) inaugurated the 37th GCMA National Trade Fair at Gandhinagar Helipad on Thursday.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, GGMA President Vijay Purohit said, “The future of the garment industry is very bright, as the industry has talented youth and skilled artisans. This Garment Fair will be a milestone, as we are all slowly coming out of the troubles that the world was facing recently. Traders from all states of India who can place large orders have been specially invited to this trade fair, so that the artisans involved in the garment industry can get a good amount of work in view of the upcoming festive season. Also, the apparel park, which has been a long-standing demand of the industries, will be fulfilled in the short term with the support of the association.”

Replying to a query on Modi 3.0 Budget and its impact on garment industry, GGMA President Vijay Purohit praised the budget for its pragmatic and innovative approach to boosting growth of all sectors. The government could have done better for the garment industry to compete with Vietnam and Bangladesh “This budget is extremely pragmatic and innovative in some of the bold decisions and directions it has taken to encourage growth of infrastructure and employment directly,” Purohit stated.

Purohit emphasized the benefits for the labor-intensive textile and apparel industry. “Whilst most of these measures are for all industries, they will likely benefit the textile and apparel industry equally, if not more, since it is more labor-oriented,” he explained. He also pointed out that the budget’s support for MSMEs and easing of foreign investment norms would enhance the industry’s competitiveness. “Import relaxation for essential raw materials, trims, and accessories will help garment manufacturers compete better in export markets,” he added.

Finance Minister Nirmal Sitharaman has increased budget allocation for textiles to ₹4,300 crore from last year’s allocation of ₹3,400 crore.

Arpan Shah, Senior Vice President, Fair In-charge, GGMA said, “Gujarat has more than 25,000 small and large garment manufacturers, with 15,000 manufacturers in Ahmedabad alone. As this sector is providing direct and indirect employment to more than 20 lakh people in Gujarat, it is imperative that this sector gets a boost. The sector is expected to pick up speed due to the trade fair. Fabric, washing, accessories and packaging industries are also associated with garment industries, which will also boost the trade.”

Efforts are being made to boost the textile and garment industries in Gujarat -the Manchester of India. To boost the garment trade, the 37th Trade Fair has been organized by The Gujarat Garment Manufacturers Association. With Janmashtmi, Rakshabandhan, Navratri-Diwali wedding season around the corner, more than 750 brands are exhibiting their products manufactured using very new technology and fashion. About 23,000-25,000 buyers from most of the states across the country will visit Trade Fair at Ahmedabad on July 25-26-27 over three days. Businessmen are hoping for large-scale orders from the B2B trade fair. Through this Garment Trade Fair, once again Gujarat’s garment industry will be booming and huge employment opportunities will be created.

It is worth mentioning that this trade fair has been successfully organized by the wonderful work of Dilip Belani (Honorary Secretary, GGMA) and Fair Committee comprising Manish Thummar, Suresh Darji and Vijay Shah.
