Thanjavur District Railway Users Association (TANDRUA) has placed a set of railway related demands, including the introduction of a daily intercity express to Chennai, to the Southern Railway authorities to implement them.
- Introduce Sengol Express to New Delhi and a daily train service to Hyderabad via Thanjavur, Kumbakonam: TANDRUA
- TANDRUA also urges the Southern Railway to forward the detailed project report for doubling the traffic saturated Thanjavur-Villupuram section to the competent authority for early approval
- It also requests the Southern Railway, to commence Station Redevelopment works in Kumbakonam early, to provide closed shelters and polished flooring in Thanjavur Junction
Various resolutions related to the demands were passed in the 61st Annual General Meeting of The Thanjavur District Railway Users Association held at Kumbakonam on Sunday, said M. Maran, Vice-President, TDRUA.

Other resolutions passed in the meeting include requesting railways to introduce Sengol Express to New Delhi and a daily train service to Hyderabad via Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, to approve and introduce the proposed direct train between Mayiladuthurai and Coimbatore via Palani, to commence operation of proposed new trains between Nagarcoil and Lokmanya Tilak Terminal (Mumbai) and between Tambaram and Coimbatore via Main Line.
TANDRUA also urged the Southern Railway to forward the detailed project report for doubling the traffic saturated Thanjavur-Villupuram section to the competent authority for early approval, and to extend Mayiladuthurai-Sengottai Express up to TIruvannamalai and Mayiladuthurai-Trichy Express up to Villupuram, includin augmenting more coaches in the two MEMU trains operated from Mayiladuthurai towards Trichy.
It also requested the Southern Railway, to commence Station Redevelopment works in Kumbakonam early, to provide closed shelters and polished flooring in Thanjavur Junction, to complete electrification of Tiruvarur-Pattukottai- Karaikudi section early, to introduce direct train to Madurai via Pattukottai.
A Giri, Secretary, TANDRUA highlighted various activities undertaken by the association last year and presented the report.
Saravanan, Secretary, Papanasam Train Passengers Association, K.R. Manoharan, Secretary, Thanjavur District Small and Tiny Industries Association were among others who participated in the AGM.
