Mega free lung function test (Spirometry) campaign
Coimbatore is expanding city with ever increasing traffic and building activities resulting in increasing pollution. Increasing levels of environmental pollution, aging of population, lifestyle risk factors like smoking, lack of physical activity and diet deviation have resulted in recent increase in respiratory illnesses in the community. More than 2 lakh population is directly affected by this pollution and suffer from lung diseases. To mark the NAPCON 2024, we are planning to conduct a mega free lung function test (Spirometry) campaign for all front line workers like Corporation employees, especially in sanitation, Fire service personnel, Auto and Taxi Drivers as well as traffic policemen who are exposed to pollution very frequently along with awareness campaign on lung health, the organizers said.
We are seeing a significant increase in respiratory illnesses in post pandemic times, most of which attributed to worsening environmental and lifestyle conditions, they added.
