My Bharat (Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan – NYKS) Tamil Nadu unit marked Constitution Day with a Padayatra (rally) ‘My Constitution – My Pride’ at Don Bosco Tech Campus, Puliyanthoppu, Chennai on Tuesday. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from school students and was graced by several distinguished dignitaries.

The rally was flagged off by Mano Thangaraj, Former Minister of Milk & Dairy Development, Government of Tamil Nadu. S Senthil Kumar, State Director for NYKS Tamil Nadu & Puducherry, welcomed the dignitaries and highlighted the importance of celebrating Constitution Day to instill constitutional values among the youth.

As part of the celebration, students took a solemn pledge to safeguard the Constitution, reinforcing their commitment to upholding its principles.
In his address, Mano Thangaraj emphasized the Constitution’s role in safeguarding democracy and promoting equality. He noted that the word secularism was introduced in the Constitution to separate government from religion. This was done so that the government of India does not follow or favor any particular religion rather every religion would be equally favored.
He added that the constitution enshrines the right to equality which provides for the equal treatment of everyone before the law and prevents discrimination on various grounds. He said that this provision ensures that everyone is treated equally before the law, given equal opportunities in certain matters,
He said the constitution outlines 11 fundamental duties for every citizen. He urged students to deeply understand and abide by the Constitution. He also highlighted the importance of local governance given by the constitution in amplifying the common man’s voice. Thangaraj also distributed prizes to winners of competitions organized in the spirit of Constitution Day.
Arun Kumar, Joint Director, Press Information Bureau, underscored the interconnection between fundamental rights and duties. He encouraged students to balance their focus on rights with a commitment to fulfilling their duties, fostering a responsible and harmonious society.
The event also saw the presence of P Sivakumar, MLA, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar Constituency and other prominent dignitaries, making it a memorable occasion.
This initiative by My Bharat (NYKS) Tamil Nadu exemplifies the significance of engaging the youth in meaningful activities to create awareness about the Constitution and its vital role in shaping a progressive nation.
