World Water Day was established in 1992 by the United Nations when the world body convened the Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. During this conference, a resolution was passed, officially designating 22nd of March as World Water Day. The first observance of the day took place on 22nd of March in 1993, marking the beginning of an annual global initiative.

The primary goal of World Water Day is to recognise the significance of water on our planet. Beyond celebration, it serves as a platform to highlight the severe water crisis affecting millions worldwide. Currently, around 2.2 billion people lack access to clean and safe drinking water.
Several events are lined up across the country and around the world to raise awareness about water conservation.

The participants were introduced to the importance of water conservation, with special emphasis on glaciers as vital sources of fresh water. Experts and facilitators shared valuable information on how glaciers contribute to the global water supply, underlining the impact of their melting due to climate change.

Additionally, the students actively participated in an Aqua-quiz, where they showcased their knowledge on water-related issues. The event concluded with participants receiving posters promoting water conservation under the Mission Life initiative, which aims to inspire sustainable practices in everyday life.

This celebration not only educated young minds on environmental issues but also encouraged them to take responsibility for protecting and conserving water. The program proved to be a successful step in raising awareness about the importance of water and the need for immediate action to safeguard this precious resource.

Grundfos reaffirms its commitment to water security and UN SDG 6

“’Preserving Glaciers,’ Grundfos reaffirms our commitment to water security and UN SDG 6. Glaciers are critical—feeding rivers, supporting communities, and regulating climate. As these ice masses melt, cities worldwide must become flood-resilient while addressing drinking water challenges. As a leading provider of pumping solutions globally, Grundfos calls for meaningful partnerships to protect these vital water sources. Together, we must ensure glaciers continue their essential role in regulating the water cycle, bringing us closer to true water security for future generations,” said Raveendra Bhat, Area Sales Director, Water Utility INDO- Region, Grundfos India.
