GANDHINAGAR, APR  16

Close on the heels of the central government implementing a 2 per cent hike in dearness allowance (DA) for its employees and pensioners, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel chaired a state cabinet meeting where a key decision was taken to hike the dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees under the Sixth and Seventh Pay Commissions, aligning it with the central government’s structure.

The revised DA will be effective from January 1, 2025, as per an official release.

The total number of state employees, including those under the panchayat services is 4.78 lakh. And the number of pensioners of the state government stands at 4.81 lakh.

According to state government spokesperson and Health Minister Rushikesh Patel, employees receiving benefits under the Seventh Pay Commission will receive a 2 per cent increase in DA. Employees under the Sixth Pay Commission will receive a 6 per cent hike in DA.

The DA arrears for the period from January 1, 2025, to March 31, 2025, will be disbursed in a single instalment with the salary for April 2025. This increase will benefit around 4.78 lakh serving employees of the state government, panchayats and other sectors, as well as approximately 4.81 lakh retired employees.

An amount of Rs 235 crore will be paid as arrears and an additional annual expenditure of Rs 946 crore will be incurred on salaries, allowances and pensions following the move.
