Delhi Public School–Bopal celebrated the 79th Independence Day with grandeur and heartfelt patriotism on Friday morning, offering a timeless tribute to India’s glorious journey to freedom.

The celebration began with the ceremonial welcome of the Special Guest, Roopang Acharya, a renowned cinematographer, editor, director, and producer of NIKKI, the Gujarati sports drama that has won six Gujarat State Awards. The film, exploring the emotional bond between generations through cricket, stands as a testament to his creative brilliance. He was joined by the Director, Vandna Joshi, and the Principal, Sabina Sawhney to hoist the National Flag.

As the Tricolour soared high, the National Anthem echoed across the academic courtyard, filling every heart with pride and unity. The dignitaries then inspected the parade, followed by a flawlessly synchronized march past by the students which was an inspiring display of discipline, precision, and teamwork.

In her address, Principal Sabina Sawhney, reminded the gathering that true patriotism lies in everyday actions and should be demonstrated through empathy, integrity, resilience, and civic responsibility. She encouraged students to understand that every act of kindness, honesty, and service contributes to strengthening the nation’s social fabric.

The cultural programme commenced with a soulful patriotic song paying homage to the courage and sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters, followed by a thought-provoking Hindi article recounting historic milestones of the independence movement. A special segment featured an engaging conversation between two students introducing Indian Sign Language, demonstrating basic signs, and promoting values of inclusion, empathy, and respect in daily life.

In his inspiring speech, Roopang Acharya spoke of the transformative role of youth in building a self-reliant and progressive India. Urging students to dream big and work with dedication, he shared how NIKKI was born from his own vision and passion, encouraging them to pursue their goals with perseverance and sincerity.

The celebration reached its artistic high with vibrant dance performances that beautifully wove together the patriotic spirit of Independence Day and the festive joy of Krishna Janmashtami, reflecting the richness of India’s cultural and spiritual heritage.

The 79th Independence Day was more than a ceremony—it was a heartfelt reminder of India’s enduring legacy of freedom and a collective call to safeguard its sovereignty. As the fervour of patriotism blended seamlessly with the devotion of Janmashtami, it inspired everyone to cherish our heritage, foster unity, and work towards a future as bright and steadfast as the ideals we hold dear.
