In a monumental push towards maritime and infrastructure development, Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a series of projects worth over ₹34,200 crore at the ‘Samudra Se Samriddhi’ event held in Bhavnagar, Gujarat.

The event marked a significant milestone in India’s march towards becoming a global maritime powerhouse, showcasing ambitious investments aimed at transforming port infrastructure, enhancing trade capacity, and promoting green energy initiatives.

“From our coasts to our ports, from logistics to green energy, we are building the future of a Viksit Bharat. These projects reflect our commitment to creating world-class infrastructure and generating new opportunities for our youth,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the gathering.

Dignitaries in Attendance

The event witnessed the presence of several key leaders and ministers, including: Bhupendra Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat;  C.R. Patil, Union Minister of Jal Shakti;  Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways;  Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Labour & Employment; Shantanu Thakur, Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways; T.K. Ramachandran, IAS, Secretary (Ports, Shipping & Waterways); Nilabhra Dasgupta, IRS, Dy. Chairman (Deendayal Port Authority) and Rahul Modi, Member, National Shipping Board

Major Announcements: Projects by Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla

A significant portion of the announced projects—valued at ₹2,400 crore—are to be executed by the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla. Key initiatives include:

  • Development of a Multi-Purpose Cargo Berth off Tuna-Tekra
  • Establishment of a Green Bio-Methanol Plant for sustainable fuel generation
  • Installation of Static Anti-Drone Technology for enhanced port security
  • Expansion of Port Infrastructure, including new oil jetties, roads, and civil facilities

These projects align with India’s broader strategy to modernize its port ecosystem while ensuring environmental sustainability and technological advancement.

Kandla Mega Port Terminal: A Visionary Leap

On the sidelines, PM Modi was briefed by Sushil Kumar Singh, IRSME, Chairman of DPA, on the upcoming Mega Port Terminal at Kandla, featuring a 6-km-long waterfront. Once completed, the terminal will add an impressive 135+ Million Metric Tonnes Per Annum (MMTPA) to India’s cargo handling capacity—substantially boosting the country’s global trade prospects.

Nationwide Engagement: LIVE Event in Gandhidham

To engage a wider audience, a LIVE screening of the event was hosted at the DPA Administrative Office in Gandhidham, attended by  Vinodbhai Chavda, MP (Kutch); Maltiben Maheshwari, MLA (Gandhidham) and senior port officials and a large gathering of employees

Driving Vision: Viksit Bharat by 2047

These transformative initiatives are a cornerstone of the Prime Minister’s vision for a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047, aiming to blend sustainability with scale and green energy with modern port infrastructure. The projects are expected to serve as catalysts for economic growth, job creation, and global competitiveness.
