Thethree day 35th National Conference of the Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology (IASGCON 2025) was on Friday inaugurated at ITC Grand Chola, Chennai, setting the stage for an immersive academic and scientific dialogue on the future of gastrointestinal surgery and oncology.

With the theme “GI Oncology Innovations, AI & Beyond,” the conference — held from October 10 to 12 — features a power-packed agenda of keynote lectures, panel discussions, live surgical demonstrations, and debates exploring the frontiers of cancer care, robotics, and artificial intelligence in surgical gastroenterology.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, I.A.S., Principal Secretary to Government, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. R. Suganthy Rajakumari, Director of Medical Education and Research, Tamil Nadu; Prof. Dr. D. Maruthupandian, National Vice President, Association of Surgeons of India; and Dr. A. Aravind, Dean, Stanley Medical College.

More than 1,250 delegates from across India and 40 leading international faculty from France, the UK, Singapore, Australia, Nepal, and beyond are participating. The scientific sessions will span Esophageal and Pancreatic cancer, Colorectal and Upper GI surgeries, Advanced Laparoscopic Skill Labs, Case-based Discussions, and Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) sessions.

Pre-conference workshops were held at Government Stanley Hospital, Apollo Hospitals, GEM Hospital, and Ethicon Endosurgery Institute, Chennai, where eminent course directors conducted hands-on training in cutting-edge surgical techniques.

Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. P. Senthil Kumar, I.A.S., lauded the association’s efforts, saying, “IASGCON has always been a forum for sharing cutting-edge knowledge and research that directly translates into better patient care. This year’s focus on oncology and artificial intelligence reflects Tamil Nadu’s strong commitment to integrating innovation into healthcare delivery.”

In his comment Dr. K. Narayanasamy M.D., D.M., Vice Chancellor, The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University,  emphasized the spirit of collaboration, remarking, “Medical science evolves rapidly, and conferences like IASGCON bridge the gap between innovation and implementation. I am proud that Tamil Nadu continues to be a hub for surgical excellence and education.”

Welcoming the gathering, Conference Organizing Chairman Dr. C. Palanivelu said, “The theme ‘GI Oncology Innovations, AI & Beyond’ underlines the transformative role of technology and multidisciplinary collaboration in surgical gastroenterology. We are delighted to see such overwhelming participation from across the world.”

Adding to this, Organizing Secretary Dr. S. Jeswanth noted, “IASGCON 2025 has been designed to provide a comprehensive academic experience through live demonstrations, hands-on training, and high-level debates that will inspire surgeons to adopt newer technologies and evidence-based practices.”

The conference will continue till Sunday, covering emerging areas such as robotic surgery, precision oncology, AI-driven diagnostics, and the future of minimally invasive surgical practice — reaffirming India’s growing leadership in surgical innovation and patient-centered care.
