MGM Malar has launched a Rapid Stroke Response Team dedicated to advanced stroke treatment and patient support, while also inaugurating a state-of-the-art Neuro-Cath Lab featuring cutting-edge imaging and interventional technologies. The initiatives mark the forthcoming World Stroke Day on October 29, aligning with this year’s global theme — “Every Minute Counts.”

The hospital also honoured “stroke warriors” who have successfully completed treatment and resumed healthy lives, celebrating their resilience and recovery.
The newly inaugurated Cath Lab is equipped with advanced imaging systems, real-time dose monitoring, and radiation-minimising technologies that ensure precision, safety, and speed in both cardiac and neurovascular interventions. It allows for seamless procedures with full head-to-toe coverage and tableside control, delivering world-class neurological and cardiovascular care under one roof.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Karthikeyan S, Senior Consultant, Interventional Neurology, MGM Malar, noted that stroke remains the second leading cause of death and long-term disability worldwide, affecting nearly 15,000 individuals annually in Chennai alone.
“What’s alarming is the rise of stroke among younger adults under 45, often due to sedentary lifestyles and unmanaged hypertension,” he said. “The first hour after a stroke — the golden hour — is critical. Quick recognition of symptoms and reaching a stroke-ready hospital can make the difference between full recovery and lifelong disability. Every minute matters.”
Dr. Sai Prashanth PR, Consultant Interventional Neurology, said the hospital remains committed to comprehensive, patient-centred neurological care, driven by technological excellence and expert collaboration.
“Recent advances in diagnostics and specialized stroke units have dramatically improved survival rates,” he said. “Our neuro team performs complex brain and spine interventions with high success rates, supported by the latest medical technologies.”
