The festival of lights illuminated India’s leadership messages this year, with the President, Vice-President, Prime Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker, and State leaders from Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Puducherry extending heartfelt greetings that blended tradition, unity and social responsibility.

President: Celebrate Safely and Spread Joy

President Droupadi Murmu, in her Diwali message, conveyed warm wishes to Indians across the world and urged everyone to celebrate the festival “safely, responsibly and in an environment-friendly manner.”
“Diwali gives the message of mutual affection and brotherhood. It is also an occasion for self-reflection and self-improvement,” she said, adding that the festival symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and good over evil. The President also reminded citizens to share happiness with the deprived and needy, spreading joy beyond one’s home.

Vice-President: Let Diyas Inspire Collective Growth

Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan greeted the nation by invoking the spirit of positivity and Dharma.
“As we celebrate Deepawali, let us all shun negativity and Adharma to adopt positivity and Dharma – not only for our own good but also for the overall progress of the Nation,” he said.
Comparing the diyas lit across homes to collective human effort, he urged citizens to dedicate themselves to the nation’s growth. “Our dedication and commitment should together usher in collective growth for Bharat,” he added, praying for Goddess Lakshmi’s blessings of peace, prosperity, and health.

Prime Minister: May Positivity Prevail All Around

Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the nation on X, wishing that the festival of lights illuminate everyone’s lives “with harmony, happiness, and prosperity.”
“May the spirit of positivity prevail all around us,” he said, extending greetings in both English and Hindi.
The Prime Minister wished that the sacred festival “enrich every household with peace, progress, and goodwill.”

Lok Sabha Speaker: Strengthen Unity and Brotherhood

Om Birla, Speaker of the Lok Sabha, described Deepawali as “the soul of our culture and traditions,” reminding citizens that it is not only a time for joy but also for sharing it with others.
“Let us take a pledge on this sacred festival to strengthen unity, brotherhood, mutual trust, and equality in our society,” he said, wishing for the prosperity of farmers, workers, youth and the business community alike.
Quoting the ideals of Lord Ram, he added that Diwali inspires everyone to uphold truth, duty and goodwill.
“May Goddess Lakshmi fill your lives with happiness and prosperity, Goddess Saraswati bless you with knowledge and wisdom, and Lord Ganesha remove all obstacles,” Birla said.

Regional Leaders Add Cultural Warmth

Gujarat: A Festival of Light and Renewal

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel extended greetings for Diwali and the Vikram Samvat New Year to Gujaratis across the world, wishing that every home be filled with “new energy, joy and prosperity.”
Governor Acharya Devvrat said the festival “illuminates lives with the light of righteousness and hope,” praying for peace and well-being of the people. Both leaders highlighted Diwali’s enduring message of optimism and renewal, calling for an inclusive celebration that strengthens social bonds.

Tamil Nadu: Governor Calls for Local Pride and Unity

Tamil Nadu Governor R. N. Ravi extended Deepavali greetings in Tamil, invoking the state’s spiritual and cultural heritage. He urged citizens to “buy local and support Indian artisans,” aligning with the Vocal for Local campaign.
Quoting the ancient Tamil maxim Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir (All towns are ours, all people our kin), he said Deepavali embodies “universal kinship, light and harmony.” His message encouraged eco-friendly celebrations and highlighted the festival as a time for compassion and community bonding.

Puducherry: Harmony and Environment-Friendly Festivities

Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan conveyed their Diwali wishes to the people of the Union Territory. They called upon citizens to uphold peace and togetherness while celebrating responsibly.
Their joint message expressed hope that “the light of Diwali dispels darkness from every home and heart,” and urged people to avoid pollution-causing firecrackers for a cleaner and greener festival.

A Shared Message of Hope

From the President to grassroots leaders, this year’s Diwali messages resonated with common themes — unity, positivity, compassion, and sustainability.
As diyas light up homes across India and the diaspora, the collective sentiment remains clear: Diwali is not just a celebration of light, but of shared humanity and renewed purpose.
