Gujarat-based Waaree Group lands 10 MWh BESS project in Tamil Nadu

  • Major order boosts TN’s clean-energy push and strengthens India’s storage ecosystem
  • State’s 20+ GW renewable base drives rapid BESS deployment demand
  • Waaree expands indigenous storage manufacturing with 4 GWh cell & 5 GWh pack lines

NE BUSINESS BUREAU
AHMEDABAD, NOV 29

In a significant boost to Tamil Nadu’s fast-growing renewable energy landscape, Waaree Group, India’s leading clean-energy solutions provider, has secured a 10 MWh Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) order from a key Infrastructure Development Company for deployment in the state. The project marks another milestone in Tamil Nadu’s aggressive push toward grid stability and round-the-clock renewable power.

Positioned at the forefront of India’s storage revolution, Waaree’s win underscores its widening capabilities—from solar PV manufacturing and EPC to advanced energy storage, green hydrogen and grid-scale infrastructure. The company is also rapidly scaling domestic storage manufacturing with a 4 GWh cell production line and a 5 GWh pack-and-container facility, enabling fully indigenous, utility-grade BESS solutions for both large-scale and commercial-industrial applications.

TN EMERGES AS A NATIONAL LEADER IN RENEWABLE INTEGRATION

Tamil Nadu, one of India’s renewable power pioneers, now hosts over 20 GW of wind and solar capacity and is accelerating BESS deployment to manage variability and ensure grid resilience. The state recently issued a 1.5 GWh standalone BESS bid, signalling large-scale adoption of storage technologies to strengthen its clean-energy grid.

WHY BESS MATTERS FOR INDIA AND TAMIL NADU

  • Round-the-clock renewable power: BESS reduces curtailment and unlocks maximum output from solar installations.
  • Grid stability: Storage helps smoothen intermittency, handle peak loads and avoid frequency disturbances as renewable penetration rises.
  • EV mobility backbone: BESS supports fast-charging networks, balancing distribution loads across expanding e-mobility infrastructure.
  • Energy security: As India accelerates solar and battery manufacturing, storage becomes a core pillar of long-term clean-energy planning.

Nationally, analyses by NEP, MNRE and CEA indicate the need for tens to hundreds of GWh of storage by the late 2020s and early 2030s, with steep capacity expansion expected from FY 2026–27 onward.

WAAREE: “TN PROJECT REAFFIRMS OUR MISSION TO BUILD FUTURE-READY ENERGY SYSTEMS”

Expressing confidence in India’s renewable transition, Ankit Doshi, President–Strategy, Waaree Group, said, “This 10 MWh BESS order is a strong endorsement of Waaree Group’s integrated capabilities and our commitment to enabling India’s clean-energy transition. Storage is the next frontier for renewable power, and we are investing deeply in technology, design, and manufacturing to meet the nation’s growing demand for flexible, dispatchable energy. This project in Tamil Nadu reinforces our mission to build reliable, future-ready solutions that strengthen grid stability and accelerate renewable adoption at scale.”

With robust domestic manufacturing, dedicated R&D and a comprehensive clean-energy portfolio, Waaree Group is well-positioned to support Tamil Nadu’s renewable ambitions and India’s national storage targets through safe, scalable and high-performance BESS solutions.
