NE BUSINESS BUREAU
MUMBAI, DEC 3

Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company Ltd on Wednesday released its Market Outlook 2026, presenting a comprehensive assessment of India’s macroeconomic trajectory and the investment themes expected to dominate the upcoming year. The report identifies opportunities across equities, fixed income and structural sectors, while mapping global and domestic trends essential for investor strategies.

Nilesh Shah, Managing Director, Kotak Mahindra AMC, said, “Equity returns in FY2026 are likely to be anchored in earnings growth, with India Inc expected to deliver double-digit growth in FY27. This strength is likely to attract foreign portfolio investors, supporting market liquidity. Midcaps are poised to outperform large and small caps, though the margin of outperformance may remain narrow. Gold and silver should continue to see upside, aided by sustained central bank buying. Investors are advised to moderate return expectations and adopt a balanced, diversified approach across asset classes to navigate evolving market dynamics.”

Key Equity Investment Themes for 2026

  1. Financial Services – Strengthening Growth and Profitability

Credit activity is rising steadily, reflected in an improving Credit-to-Deposit Ratio and healthier lending momentum. Strong fundamentals, sound capital adequacy and robust return ratios continue to make the sector attractive. A narrowing gap between credit and deposit growth may ease margin pressures, further supporting profitability.

  1. Consumption Upcycle – Set for Strong Rebound

Consumption is expected to enter a renewed upcycle powered by rising disposable incomes, GST reforms and sustained festive demand. Rural Income Per Capita has crossed the USD 2,000 threshold—an inflection point that historically drives discretionary spending, particularly in Autos.
With India still among the world’s most under-penetrated two-wheeler and passenger vehicle markets, rising aspirations, benign inflation and rural recovery are likely to accelerate demand. Monthly sales already indicate a structural shift toward premiumisation.

  1. E-commerce – Rapid Digital Acceleration

India’s e-commerce market continues to expand on the back of low penetration and increasing digital adoption. Penetration is projected to rise to 12–13% by FY30, led by categories such as electronics and beauty & personal care.
The segment remains highly consolidated, with the top three players commanding almost 80% of the market—creating a favourable path toward scale, efficiency and profitability.

  1. Healthcare – Structural Long-Term Opportunity

India’s ageing demographics and rising incidence of chronic ailments are expected to push up healthcare spending significantly. With one of the world’s largest ageing populations—set to double over the next 25 years—demand for healthcare services, infrastructure and specialised care is projected to grow sharply.

Fixed Income Outlook: Constructive and Stable

Fixed income is expected to assume a larger role in portfolios, contributing stability amid evolving market conditions. India’s potential inclusion in the Bloomberg Global Aggregate Index, with a formal decision anticipated by January 2026, could attract USD 25 billion in inflows.
Supportive macro fundamentals and improving demand-supply dynamics continue to provide a favourable backdrop for bond markets.

The report includes a standard forward-looking statement disclaimer emphasizing that actual market outcomes may vary due to risks including economic conditions, interest rate movements, inflation, and geopolitical developments.

It also notes that these materials are not intended for distribution in jurisdictions where such dissemination violates local laws or restrictions.
