AHMEDABAD, DEC 15
The SBI Green Marathon Season 6 reached Ahmedabad with a powerful message: running can be a catalyst for environmental change. At dawn, the Sabarmati Riverfront transformed into a living symbol of sustainability as over 6,200 participants came together—not merely to compete, but to collectively run for a greener, healthier India.
More than a sporting event, the marathon was designed to raise awareness about climate responsibility, low-waste living and community-led environmental action, aligning fitness with the urgent need for sustainable lifestyles.
The Aim: Turning Fitness into Environmental Action
Rooted in its guiding philosophy — “Run for a Greener India” — the SBI Green Marathon seeks to inspire behavioural change through mass participation. Each edition encourages citizens to adopt eco-friendly practices, reduce their carbon footprint and view sustainability as a shared responsibility.
Ahmedabad, with its blend of heritage, riverfront rejuvenation and green urban planning, provided the perfect canvas for this mission.
A City Runs Together—for the Planet

Participants included seasoned marathoners, students, families, fitness groups, and contingents from the Indian Army and Defence Forces, underscoring the marathon’s inclusive spirit. The focus was not on podium finishes alone, but on collective action and conscious choices.
The event was flagged off by senior SBI officials — Balaji Kumar Singhsamanta, Chief General Manager; Chandra Sekhar V, General Manager Network I; Atul Rathi, General Manager Network II; Anil Kumar Ahirwal, General Manager Network III; and Vikram Jha, DGM & CDO — reaffirming SBI’s leadership in driving sustainability through community engagement.
Green at Every Step
True to its mission, the marathon embedded sustainability into every aspect of the event:
- Organic T-shirts, plantable BIBs and reusable cloth goodie bags promoted low-waste living.
- Black alkaline water supported hydration and post-run recovery.
- Skrap, the official waste management partner, ensured waste segregation, recycling and responsible disposal, with a comprehensive sustainability report to follow.
These measures reinforced the core message: sustainability is a practice, not a slogan.
Energy, Engagement and Eco-Friendly Routes
The atmosphere was electrifying, with RJ Krutarth and RJ Urvi energising runners and spectators alike. The AIMS-certified 5K, 10K and Half Marathon routes along the Sabarmati Riverfront offered scenic views, wide pathways and a refreshing morning breeze—highlighting Ahmedabad’s commitment to people-centric, green urban spaces.
Running Toward a Shared Future
With every stride, Ahmedabad reaffirmed that individual action, when multiplied by thousands, becomes a movement. As the SBI Green Marathon Season 6 continues its 17-city journey across India, the Ahmedabad edition stands out as a compelling reminder that sport can inspire environmental stewardship, healthier communities and a more sustainable nation.
