- Joint military drill in Thiruvananthapuram sharpens amphibious warfare skills
- Indian Army Southern Command and MNDF train for littoral operations
- Reflex firing, demolition drills enhance readiness and interoperability
Troops from the Indian Army’s Southern Command are training alongside contingents of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), with the mid-phase of the exercise focusing on interoperability, tactical coordination and combat readiness through structured joint operations.
Amphibious Warfare at the Core of Training
Littoral operations, waterborne insertions practised
A key component of the ongoing phase is amphibious operations training, aimed at preparing troops for missions in littoral and near-shore environments. Soldiers from both nations are practising waterborne insertion drills, enabling rapid movement, manoeuvre and seamless coordination during coastal and amphibious tasks.
These drills are designed to simulate real-world operational scenarios, enhancing the ability of the joint force to respond effectively in complex maritime-land interfaces.
Firepower, Precision and Controlled Demolitions
Reflex firing and explosives handling sharpen edge
To further enhance battlefield effectiveness, troops are conducting reflex firing exercises, focusing on speed, accuracy and agility during close-quarter engagements.
The training module also includes explosives and demolition exercises, with emphasis on safe handling procedures, controlled execution and technical proficiency, reinforcing discipline and safety alongside combat effectiveness.
Toward Stronger Regional Security
Exercise builds trust, readiness and strategic alignment
As Exercise EKUVERIN 2025 moves toward its culmination, both contingents are on course to meet all predefined training objectives. The exercise continues to foster mutual understanding, tactical synergy and trust, strengthening preparedness for diverse security contingencies.
Beyond tactical gains, EKUVERIN 2025 underscores the shared commitment of India and the Maldives to maritime stability, regional security and cooperative defence engagement in the Indian Ocean Region.
