Beyond 8 School has once again redefined experiential education by hosting an immersive learning programme at a historic 120-year-old marketplace that continues to serve as a vital economic and social hub for farmers and local communities. The initiative underscores the school’s distinctive educational philosophy—moving beyond conventional classrooms to blend academic learning with practical, life-ready skills.

- Experiential Education: A 120-year-old shandy becomes a living classroom
- Skill Integration: Economics, sociology, psychology and business in real time
- Market Immersion: Learners decode demand, pricing, negotiation and consumer behaviour
- Future-Ready Learning: Beyond 8 nurtures entrepreneurs, not just exam toppers
Set against the vibrant backdrop of the Pallavaram Shandy, learners stepped into a real-world ecosystem where textbook concepts came alive. The experience enabled students to closely observe how demand and supply influence pricing across the day, while also honing negotiation and communication skills through direct interactions with vendors. In the fast-paced marketplace environment, learners strengthened adaptability, sharpened problem-solving abilities, and gained first-hand exposure to consumer behaviour in action.
The bustling shandy also offered valuable insights into the cultural and demographic fabric of the community, helping learners understand markets not merely as economic spaces but as social systems shaped by people, traditions and livelihoods.
“At Beyond 8, we believe learning happens best when learners see concepts in action. Pallavaram Shandy offers a living classroom where economics, sociology, psychology, and business studies come together in one setting,” said Dr Bhanu Shankar, Governor of Education, Beyond 8.
Echoing this sentiment, facilitator Usha Lakshmi highlighted the deeper impact of experiential exposure. “What makes this initiative powerful is the way learners connect theory with practice. By engaging directly with communities and markets, they gain perspectives that no textbook can fully capture,” she said.
By weaving multiple disciplines into a single, authentic learning experience, Beyond 8 ensures that learners develop practical understanding alongside academic knowledge. More importantly, the programme cultivates essential future-ready skills—communication, collaboration, adaptability and problem-solving—preparing young learners not only for academic success, but also to think, build and operate like tomorrow’s entrepreneurs.
