On the eve of the 77th Republic Day, India paid tribute to its finest warriors as President Droupadi Murmu approved Gallantry Awards for 70 Armed Forces personnel, including six posthumous honours, recognising acts of exceptional bravery in the line of duty. The awards span the Army, Navy, Air Force and other security forces, reinforcing the nation’s unwavering respect for those who place service before self.
The honours include one Ashok Chakra, three Kirti Chakras, 13 Shaurya Chakras, one Bar to Sena Medal (Gallantry), 44 Sena Medals (Gallantry), six Nao Sena Medals (Gallantry) and two Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry). Each citation stands as a powerful reminder that courage, leadership and sacrifice remain the bedrock of India’s national security.
In addition, the President approved 301 military decorations for distinguished service, including Param Vishisht Seva Medals, Uttam Yudh Seva Medals, Ati Vishisht Seva Medals, Yudh Seva Medals and Vishisht Seva Medals, honouring decades of professional excellence and commitment to the nation.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, paying tribute to the awardees, said, “India will always remain grateful to the brave men and women of our Armed Forces. Their courage inspires every citizen and motivates our youth to serve the nation with dedication and honour.”
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh echoed the sentiment, stating, “These awards symbolise the highest traditions of the Indian Armed Forces. They remind our young generation that a life in uniform is not just a career, but a calling to protect the sovereignty and values of our Republic.”
