The Department of Posts, Tamil Nadu Postal Circle, is set to showcase the spirit of strength, discipline and sportsmanship by organising the 38th All India Postal Weight Lifting, Power Lifting & Best Physique Tournament at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, Raja Muthaiah Road, Periamet, Chennai, from January 27 to January 30, 2026.
The inaugural ceremony of the prestigious national-level tournament will be held at the venue on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at 9.00 a.m.
Smt. Mariamma Thomas, IPoS, Chief Postmaster General, Tamil Nadu Circle, will inaugurate the championship, while Shri N. Sivaraj, Weightlifting Olympian, will attend as the Guest of Honour.
Senior postal officials expected to be present at the inauguration include Smt. T. Nirmala Devi, IPoS, Postmaster General, Central Region; Shri G. Natarajan, IPoS, Postmaster General, Chennai City Region; Shri A. Saravanan, IPoS, Postmaster General, Western Region; Shri Akhil Nair, IPoS, Director Postal Services, Western Region; and Major Manoj M, IPoS, Director Postal Services, Headquarters & Chennai City Region.
The four-day championship will witness intense competition among 166 postal athletes from 16 states across the country, competing in Weight Lifting, Power Lifting and Best Physique categories, reflecting the growing emphasis on physical fitness and sporting excellence within the Department of Posts.
The tournament holds added significance as the winners will become eligible to participate in the Inter-Departmental Tournament of the Central Government, providing a platform for postal sportspersons to compete at a higher national level. The Best Physique winner of the championship will be honoured with the prestigious “Dak Shree” title during the prize distribution ceremony.
The event underscores the Department of Posts’ continued commitment to promoting sports, fitness and holistic development among its employees, while fostering national camaraderie through competitive sport.
