The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) has taken a decisive step in strengthening Indo-Vietnam academic cooperation by hosting a two-week collaborative research visit by faculty members and PhD scholars from Vietnam National University, University of Engineering and Technology (VNU-UET), from January 08 to January 20, 2026. The visit marks the first concrete implementation of the academic collaboration agreement between the two institutions.

Designed to translate institutional intent into outcome-driven engagement, the visit brought together faculty members and research scholars from both universities for intensive academic discussions, laboratory interactions, and collaborative research exploration. The engagement focused primarily on the Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering disciplines, enabling sustained interaction with IIT Gandhinagar’s faculty members and active research groups.
The visiting delegation comprised Dr Phạm Đình Nguyện, Lecturer, Faculty of Civil Engineering, VNU-UET; Dr Nguyễn Văn Thương, Lecturer, Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, VNU-UET; and PhD scholars MSc. Nguyễn Thế Thịnh, MSc. Nguyễn Văn Luân, and MSc. Nguyễn Xuân Thành, who also serve as lecturers at Thai Nguyen University of Industry (TNUT).

During the visit, the delegation participated in in-depth discussions on ongoing research initiatives, laboratory methodologies, and interdisciplinary research practices. These engagements enabled meaningful knowledge exchange, while also identifying potential areas for joint research projects, co-authored publications, faculty exchange programmes, and sustained long-term collaboration—effectively transforming a formal MoU into active academic partnership.
Reflecting on the experience, the visiting Vietnamese faculty expressed strong appreciation for IIT Gandhinagar’s research ecosystem and collaborative culture.
“The Vietnam National University of Technology faculty greatly appreciated the strong academic and research culture at IIT Gandhinagar. We look forward to endorsing this collaboration within our university and across Vietnam and encouraging our students and research scholars to explore study and research opportunities at IIT Gandhinagar,” said Dr Phạm Đình Nguyện, Lecturer, Faculty of Civil Engineering, VNU University of Engineering and Technology (VNU-UET).

The visit also underscored IIT Gandhinagar’s robust academic ecosystem, advanced research infrastructure, and open collaborative ethos, which together create a strong foundation for international research partnerships. Both institutions reaffirmed their shared commitment to research excellence, capacity building, and global academic connectivity.
Beyond academic engagement, the visiting scholars also experienced India’s cultural and historical context, further strengthening people-to-people connections and fostering mutual understanding—an essential element for sustainable international collaboration.
The exchange demonstrated a clear intent from IIT Gandhinagar and VNU-UET to pursue joint research initiatives and academic programmes, highlighting how structured collaboration can deliver tangible outcomes, deepen research linkages, and expand opportunities for faculty and students across both institutions.
