Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL), India’s leading integrated energy solutions provider, has achieved a landmark milestone by successfully delivering 1 crore electricity smart meters across distribution companies (discoms), becoming the first company in India—and possibly globally—to reach this scale. The company is now on track to deliver the next 1 crore smart meters within the coming financial year.
As India’s largest Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider (AMISP), AESL holds a mandate to install approximately 2.5 crore smart meters across five states. With an industry-leading installation pace of nearly 25,000 meters per day, AESL has set a new benchmark for speed, scale and reliability in smart metering deployment.
Notably, the milestone has been achieved well ahead of the company’s stated guidance of March 31, 2026, underscoring AESL’s execution excellence and commitment to digitally transforming India’s retail power distribution ecosystem. The rollout directly supports the Government of India’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), which aims to modernise electricity distribution through nationwide smart metering.
AESL’s expanding smart meter network delivers real-time consumption insights to consumers, improves billing accuracy and transparency, and significantly strengthens utility operations, grid planning and demand forecasting, laying the foundation for a more resilient and efficient power sector.
Commenting on the achievement, Kandarp Patel, Chief Executive Officer, Adani Energy Solutions, said,
“Reaching an installed base of 1 crore smart meters reflects our benchmarked execution capabilities and deep engagement with both utilities and consumers. These smart meters are not merely devices—they are catalysts for empowering consumers with real-time data, improving grid reliability, reducing losses and enabling efficient energy management. AESL remains firmly committed to playing a pivotal role in India’s digital energy transition.”
AESL’s ability to achieve the highest daily installation rate in the country stems from its integrated, ecosystem-led execution model. The company has strengthened control and visibility across the value chain through strategic collaboration with group entities such as Adani Esyasoft Smart Solutions for smart metering and IoT platforms, and AdaniConneX for secure local data hosting. In parallel, partnerships with Tier-I meter manufacturers ensure timely deliveries and platform scalability over long-term contracts.
Further strengthening its on-ground capabilities, AESL—through the Adani Group’s CSR initiatives—has been training a large workforce of skilled technicians, creating a sustainable talent pipeline for rapid and high-quality meter installations. Together, these elements have emerged as AESL’s key execution differentiators.
Having commenced its smart metering journey in 2024, AESL has achieved the 1-crore installation milestone in approximately 24 months, making it the fastest deployment of smart meters in India to date.
Under the RDSS framework, India plans to replace nearly 25 crore conventional electricity meters with smart meters to modernise the power distribution landscape. Smart metering is critical for reducing Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses, supporting renewable energy integration, enabling smarter grid design, and providing data-driven insights for both utilities and consumers.
