
- Southern Command Investiture Ceremony pays glowing tribute to India’s Bravest

In a solemn yet stirring affirmation of India’s military ethos, the Southern Command Investiture Ceremony was held at Ahmedabad on 06–07 February 2026, celebrating the indomitable courage, professionalism and selfless service of the Indian Army. The prestigious ceremony was hosted under the stewardship of Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Southern Command.
34 heroes honoured for valour; 33 units cited for operational excellence
During the ceremony, the Army Commander conferred gallantry and distinguished service awards on 34 personnel for exemplary acts of valour, courage and devotion to duty in the service of the Nation. In addition, 33 units were awarded the coveted “GOC-in-C, Southern Command Unit Citation” in recognition of their outstanding operational performance, professionalism and sustained excellence.

Guard of Honour reflects Army’s rich traditions
The proceedings commenced with a ceremonial Guard of Honour for the Army Commander, in keeping with the time-honoured traditions and ethos of the Indian Army, setting a tone of dignity, discipline and deep national pride.
GOC-in-C’s address: Courage, sacrifice and operational readiness
Addressing the gathering, Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth underscored the deeper meaning of the investiture ceremony, stating that it “recognises exceptional courage, professionalism and selfless service, while drawing inspiration from the supreme sacrifices of fallen heroes and the enduring legacy of our veterans.”
He further highlighted Southern Command’s high operational readiness, jointmanship and multi-domain capability, demonstrated during recent operations and exercises, and reaffirmed the Command’s continued focus on operational preparedness, technological modernisation and inter-agency synergy to strengthen integrated capability and ensure national security.


Veterans honoured; future-ready force on display
On the occasion, the Army Commander also presented Veteran Achievers Awards to distinguished veterans for their remarkable contributions across diverse fields, acknowledging their continued service to the nation beyond uniform.
A dedicated weapon and equipment display showcased cutting-edge arms, platforms and systems aligned with the Indian Army’s modernisation drive and technology infusion efforts under the Decade of Transformation, reflecting a force that is both battle-hardened and future-ready.

Nation salutes its sentinels
Attended by senior dignitaries, defence officials, veterans, guests, Veer Naris and Veer Matas, the ceremony was imbued with solemn pride and national reverence. It stood as a powerful reminder of the Indian Army’s timeless values of courage, discipline, sacrifice and selfless service, and the unbreakable bond between the nation and its soldiers.
