These stations have been transformed into modern, accessible, and passenger-centric travel hubs featuring upgraded station buildings, enhanced platform shelters, spacious waiting halls, improved sanitation, lifts, foot over bridges, better parking, and advanced digital passenger information systems.
Blending regional architectural heritage with cutting-edge amenities, the redeveloped stations will enhance passenger convenience, strengthen regional connectivity, and stimulate tourism and local commerce. With this inauguration, Tamil Nadu now has 17 redeveloped Amrit Stations out of 77 identified under the national modernisation programme.
Chennai’s Lifeline Gets Stronger with Fourth Railway Line
Further strengthening Chennai’s suburban rail backbone, the Prime Minister will dedicate the 4.3-km Chennai Beach–Chennai Egmore fourth railway line, built at a cost of ₹273 crore.
This vital infrastructure upgrade will significantly decongest one of Chennai’s busiest rail corridors, allowing smoother operations, additional passenger and freight services, and improved punctuality—directly benefiting thousands of daily commuters.
The enhanced capacity will also support faster goods movement, strengthening supply chains and boosting industrial productivity across Tamil Nadu.
Transformative Impact on Economy, Mobility, and Regional Growth
These projects represent far more than infrastructure—they are catalysts for economic expansion and social mobility. Improved rail connectivity will enable easier access to jobs, education, healthcare, and markets, particularly for smaller towns and semi-urban regions.
Modern stations will also stimulate tourism, increase local business activity, and create employment opportunities, strengthening Tamil Nadu’s position as one of India’s leading economic engines.
The main event will be held at the AAI premises in Perungudi, Madurai, with simultaneous ceremonial events and live streaming across all eight redeveloped stations, allowing citizens statewide to participate in this historic milestone.
Together, these transformative rail projects mark a decisive leap toward a faster, safer, and more connected Tamil Nadu—empowering citizens, energising the economy, and redefining the future of travel across the state.
