In a decisive leap toward combating one of medicine’s most unpredictable and life-threatening emergencies, Kauvery Group of Hospitals has launched dedicated GI Bleed Centres across all its hospitals in Tamil Nadu, establishing a coordinated, rapid-response network designed to detect, stabilise, and treat gastrointestinal bleeding with speed and precision.

  • New dedicated centres promise rapid diagnosis, precision intervention and lifesaving coordination for gastrointestinal emergencies
  • Multidisciplinary teams unite emergency, gastro, ICU, radiology and surgical expertise under one seamless clinical command
  • 24×7 advanced endoscopy, embolisation and critical care protocols bring global-standard treatment closer to patients’ homes
  • Landmark initiative across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka strengthens emergency preparedness and transforms digestive healthcare outcomes

Gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding—internal bleeding anywhere along the digestive tract—is a medical emergency that can escalate rapidly without timely diagnosis and intervention. The newly launched centres aim to deliver comprehensive, standardised, and multidisciplinary care, ensuring that patients receive specialised treatment without delay.

The initiative will also extend across Kauvery’s hospitals in Karnataka, creating a unified emergency care grid spanning 12 units across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, bringing advanced GI bleed management closer to communities and significantly improving survival outcomes.

A coordinated rescue chain from emergency door to recovery

At the heart of the GI Bleed Centres is a fully integrated care pathway that connects emergency physicians, gastroenterologists, intensivists, interventional radiologists, and surgeons in a seamless continuum of care.

From the moment a patient arrives in the emergency department, every step—from rapid clinical evaluation and risk stratification to ICU admission, endoscopic or radiological intervention, and structured discharge planning—is guided by clearly defined, evidence-based protocols.

The centres are equipped with round-the-clock emergency endoscopy services and advanced therapeutic procedures such as injection therapy, band ligation, glue therapy, and coil embolisation. Interventional radiology support for angiographic embolisation and surgical expertise for complex, high-risk cases are available at all times.

Early intervention and teamwork are the difference between life and loss

Dr. P. Basumani, Director, Kauvery Institute of Digestive Sciences, said: “GI bleeding can result from ulcers, gastric erosions, or variceal bleeds linked to liver disease. Effective management depends on early assessment, stabilisation, accurate diagnosis, and timely intervention, as delays can be life-threatening. It requires a systematic, well-coordinated approach. At the Kauvery GI Bleed Centre, we have streamlined evidence-based protocols to ensure timely care at every stage. What truly makes a difference is teamwork – with multiple departments working seamlessly to deliver coordinated, patient-centred care.”

His remarks underscore the critical reality that GI bleeding is not merely a digestive disorder—but a time-sensitive emergency requiring precision, speed, and synchronised clinical expertise.

Bringing advanced emergency care closer to every community

Dr. Aravindan Selvaraj, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Kauvery Group of Hospitals, said: “Access to timely, specialised care is critical in managing medical emergencies. With Kauvery Hospitals across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, we are bringing advanced GI bleed management closer to the communities we serve. Our goal is to standardise protocols across all units to ensure consistent quality, safety, and patient outcomes, regardless of location. This initiative underscores our ongoing commitment to strengthening emergency and critical care services.”

This strategic expansion represents more than infrastructure—it reflects a commitment to ensuring that geography never becomes a barrier to lifesaving care.

Redefining emergency digestive care with precision and preparedness

By integrating advanced technology, specialised expertise, and standardised protocols, Kauvery’s GI Bleed Centres mark a paradigm shift in emergency digestive care. The initiative ensures that patients facing sudden, potentially fatal internal bleeding receive rapid diagnosis, expert intervention, and coordinated recovery support— dramatically improving clinical outcomes.

As gastrointestinal disorders rise globally due to lifestyle diseases, liver conditions, and medication-related complications, the creation of dedicated GI Bleed Centres represents a critical step toward strengthening emergency readiness and safeguarding lives.
