In a significant stride towards global academic integration, the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with University of Southern Brittany, France, paving the way for structured academic and scientific collaboration over the next three years.

  • Three-year pact to boost collaborative research, joint publications and student mobility
  • Faculty exchange, international conferences and training programmes on the agenda
  • Vice-Chancellor says global perspectives key to academic excellence
  • French university chief hails deeper France–India research mobility

The agreement was formalised on March 4, 2026, at the CUTN campus in Thiruvarur. The MoU was signed by Prof. R. Thirumurugan, Registrar, CUTN, and Prof. David Menier, President of the University of Southern Brittany, in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof. M. Krishnan.

The partnership establishes a comprehensive framework for Indo-French academic cooperation, focusing on collaborative research projects, joint publications and sustained exchange of knowledge.

Research, Mobility & Global Exposure

A primary objective of the MoU is to facilitate faculty and student exchange, enabling scholars to gain international academic exposure and access to advanced research ecosystems in both India and France.

The agreement also provides for the organisation of international conferences, workshops and specialised training programmes. Systematic sharing of academic materials and research resources will further strengthen collaborative outcomes.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Krishnan underlined the transformative potential of the collaboration, stating that it would foster a dynamic exchange of ideas and global perspectives. He emphasised that such innovative academic partnerships are vital for strengthening scientific research and sustaining institutional excellence.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. David Menier observed that the MoU reflects a shared commitment to enhancing academic and research mobility between France and India, reinforcing the long-standing educational ties between the two nations.

Strengthening India–France Academic Ties

The collaboration aligns with India’s broader push towards internationalisation of higher education under the National Education Policy framework, which encourages global partnerships, joint research initiatives and cross-border academic mobility.

Senior university officers present during the signing ceremony included CA G R Giridharan, Finance Officer; Prof. Sulochana Shekhar, Controller of Examinations; Dr. R. Parameshwaran, Librarian; along with faculty members from various departments.

With this MoU, CUTN strengthens its global academic footprint, while the University of Southern Brittany expands its engagement with Indian higher education institutions—marking a promising chapter in Indo-French research collaboration.
