Parcel Cargo Express Train (PCET), a concept that has been reintroduced by Indian Railways after the lockdown has received wide acclaim in Southern Railway.
The zone has launched SETU (Swift & Efficient Transport of Utilities), a 24X7 dedicated helpline number 90253 42449 that can be accessed by customers seeking assistance for booking parcels from different locations and with varied requirements. Information regarding Parcel specials are updated in Southern Railway website (www.sr.indianrailways.gov.in) with prominent scroll on homepage.
Information was disseminated through attractive posts in the Official Twitter and Facebook handles and a Special Team was created to carry out concerted parcel marketing efforts.
The intensive marketing efforts have paid well, with the zone transporting, amongst other things, 73.87 tonnes of medicines and 46.55 tonnes of medical equipment. With this, Southern Railway has totally dispatched 120.413 tonnes of medical supplies and medical equipment alone up to April 18, the release added.

Extension Of Daily Parcel Special Services
Time tabled Parcel Cargo Special trains are run by Southern Railway to facilitate smooth transport of essential commodities. PCETs have thus become the preferred mode and there have been demands from various organisations for extension of daily parcel services. In view of this, Southern Railway has extended the services of two pairs of Daily Parcel Special services and revised the stoppages and timings as detailed below :
Chennai – Coimbatore – Chennai Daily Parcel Special Services Extended Upto Shoranur
T.No.00653 Dr MGR Chennai Central – Coimbatore Parcel Special service (Daily) has now been extended to run upto Shoranur effective from 19th April, 2020.
The details of stoppages and arrival/departure timings are:
Departure from Dr MGR Chennai Central – 08.00 hrs (Daily)
Stoppages at Jolarpettai (12.30/12.35), Karuppur (14.55/15.40), Salem (15.50/16.00), Erode ( 17.15/17.25), Uttukuli (17.50/18.00), Tiruppur (18.35/18.45), Coimbatore (19.45/19.55), Palakkad ( 21.05/21.15) and arrival at Shoranur at 22.15 hrs the same day.
In the return direction, T.No.00654 Coimbatore – Dr MGR Chennai Central Parcel Special service (daily) will now commence ex.Shoranur effective from 19th April, 2020.
The details of stoppages and arrival/departure timings are given below:
Departure from Shoranur – 3.30 hrs (Daily) Stoppages at Palakkad (04.25/04.35), Coimbatore (05.50/06.00), Tirupur (06.45/07.05), Uttukuli (07.20/07.30), Erode (08.10/09.10), Salem (10.10/10.20), Karuppur (10.45/11.30), Jolarpettai (12.45/12.50) and arrival at Dr MGR Chennai Central at 16.45 hrs the same day.
These Parcel Express Trains are operated in view of COVID-19 outbreak to help reach medical essentials to various places. These Parcel Express serves for the movement of medicines, medical equipments, masks, food items, food products, Stationeries, Couriers and other medical essentials in the hour of need.
Salem Division running Parcel Van Special Trains
Salem Division of Southern Railway is running Parcel Van Special Trains for mass quick transportation across the nation for the customers including State governments.
The Industrial houses, companies, organizations, individuals are benefitted by this extended rail services of Southern Railway.
Parcel bookings are opened now. For assistance Salem division has nominated exclusive Commercial inspector on major station Coimbatore 9003956955, Tiruppur 9600956238, Erode 9600956231, Salem 9003956957.
Parcel Special Service Between Okha – Thiruvananthapuram – Okha
Another release said, a Parcel Special Service Train will be run between Okha – Thiruvananthapuram – Okha. Public can avail this facility and send / receive parcels.
Train No.00933 Okha – Thiruvananthapuram parcel special service train will leave Okha at 13.10 hrs. on 20.04.2020 (1 service) and reach Thiruvananthapuram at 12.00 hrs. on 22.04.2020.
Train No.00934 Thiruvananthapuram – Okha parcel special service train will leave Thiruvananthapuram at 23.00 hrs. on 22.04.2020 (1 service) and reach Okha at 21.40 hrs. on 24.04.2020.
The train will have 5 high capacity parcel vans and 1 luggage-cum-brake van. Stoppages and Timings of the parcel special service train

A new helpline – SETU (Swift and Efficient Transport of Utilities) – has been launched to provide assistance round the clock. The helpline will enable customers from the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala to call up and make enquiries for possible transportation of the essential commodities and other industrial items.
This helpline number will serve as a one stop solution for all assistance related to booking of parcels in the parcel special service trains during this period of lock down.
